NHL - Sports Rumors

Andrew Raycroft

Booed mercilessly by the Air Canada Centre faithful, winless since Nov.9, nailed to the bench since Feb.5, Andrew Raycroft — remember him? — starts Tuesday against the Buffalo Sabres according to the Toronto Star.

His pride hurt, but his dignity intact, the long-suffering backup can't wait to show what he can do.

"I don't want it to feel like a charity case," said Raycroft. "I played a lot of NHL games, I've won a lot of NHL games. I have as much pride, if not more, than anyone else in here right now. I'm going to want to go out and do well for myself and for the guys in here. It doesn't matter whether you play once a month or once every four months or once every two days, you go out and try hard and try to stop the puck every time."

I've got nothing against Raycroft, but I do hope his time in Toronto is done after the season. He just can't grow here, but kudos to him because this whole season he has been a class act and a strong character, if personality was a stat that the Leafs could win games on, they'd have no problem with Raycroft between the pipes.

I bet Raycroft will have a good game, the first in recent memory. Afterall the Leafs now have to focus on getting an even worse draft pick and who else better to lead them. I hope however that the real Raycroft will come out tonight and then I hope he gets run out of town, what a loser.

It's not Raycroft's fault. Look at all the goaltenders they've had over the past 4 years and they were all good names turned mediocre because they have no defensive scheme.
Whomever gets Raycroft after this season is getting a real steal.

I'm thinking Raycroft plays a good game here - he's got nothing to lose. Or Buffalo scores a baker's dozen. Either or.

Winless since Nov. 9th...and they are going to start him? lmao, that is why the Leafs didn't make the playoffs. I thought it was simple logic...if he isn't winning then don't start him...he should be emergency 2nd or 3rd string. Then again Mats Sundin couldn't win with the Leafs his entire career....just give it up Leaf fans or get out the moth balls for another long post season and off-season.

Hey lets put it like this, its real simple Raycroft has had his 15 minutes of glory .This guy is done, a career minor leaguer at best.Hey Park C (post #4) you have one of the best goalies in the AHL coming up,his name is Tuukka Rask ,you wont be disappointed.

It will make Toronto's day if they can beat Montreal and somehow prevent them from being #1 overall in East......

Raycroft is still a very good goalie who got shafted being trading to the worst team in the NHL. Boston got a great deal for him just like every other team who does business with Toronto. If he gets moved to a team like tampa or maybe even chicago he will be his old self again.

raycroft did win the calder for boston, but then again so did sergei samsanov, and he was pure talent wasted. poor boston, if phil kessel got drafted to another team he'd probably still have both his nuts :(

what raycroft needs is only to get his confidence back, he broke the record for wins in a season for toronto last year and all he got was a ton of animosity from the crowd, if he were to play for a defensive team maybe play as the backup for defensive team or even a minor league team for a season he could get his confidence back, his calder was proof that he has the talent.

He had 37 wins last year and 29 the year before. That's no accident.
MLSE is flawed from the top down.
