NHL - Sports Rumors

“PeterSwedish superstar Peter Forsberg(notes) wants back into the NHL this season and it's looking like he could return to one of his old teams, the Philadelphia Flyers.

Forsberg actually has two former stints in the Philadelphia organization. During one, he was the overseas throw-in in the trade with the Quebec Nordiques for Eric Lindros(notes).

Now the Flyers are apparently thinking they'd like to have Forsberg back again, especially since the team just lost Simon Gagne(notes) for six to eight weeks. According to The Fourth Period, the team is sending scout (and former Flyer great) Ilkka Sinisalo to Europe to check Forsberg out in the Karjala Cup, which starts on Thursday.

Folks from the Washington Capitals, Montreal Canadiens, and another Forsberg former team, the Colorado Avalanche, are all expected to be there as well.

OMG, will this never end. Yes, he was great, but now he's just an injury waiting to happen. He'll come in and look lights out for a week, then he'll be on the IR for the next three weeks. If the Flyers are smart they will just leave it alone.

This team has a really bad record when it comes to talent. They get good kids, can't develop them properly, trade them and watch them become stars...then try to reacquire them after they've past their prime...or just hire has beens. As great as Peter used to be, he isn't and will never again be the guy we need. Is the talent in the world really that few and far between that we need to go down a road that we've already been down and crashed on? I would much rather have Upshall back than go down this road again...he has much more upside.

Peter Forsberg? Please Flyers, give it a rest! We need better defensemen, not more aging forwards.

Foolish. But, I can see the Flyers' brass making the move if Forsberg plays for peanuts....and that'll be the issue: What kind of money will he want?

Forsberg is the last thing the Flyers need. Plus they don't have the cap room to give him anything substantial.

I don't know how the flyers would even work that into the salary cap. Maria Rod Brind'amour is going to retire a Cane. He has played more seasons there than with the flyers

Flyers won't nab him, put your bets he lands with the Avs for these two reasons: a.) Mentorship of the young blood while anchoring a line (when he's healthy ;) b.) Sales and the hype of him retiring an Avalanche...that alone will fill the stands throughout the season - "last chance to see Foppa skate in Denver..."

He loves the game, not the money (I think) - give him a contract that pays him only for games he actually PLAYS. Done.

    Joe-your missing the "O"
Love Forsberg, always have. Even being a long time Wings fan I can still say Forsberg was one of the best all around players in his time. If he would ever consider coming to Detroit I would welcome him with open arms but I know that will never happen.

during his time i was so great to watch..im just a wishful person thinking MAYBE he could come and have a great season like old times..but thats like asking Pavel Bure to come back and OWN the league with his screwed up knees. he may come back but like one post earlier said for mentorship and if colorado, the hype of retiring an Avalanche player. would love though for him to be a flyer so he can lay out and hopefully permanently injure sindy crosby-god i hate that whining fool.

idk why u guys make a big deal out of Forsberg posts.
The guy was one of the best players in the game 5 years ago. Injuries have hurt him. THe guy has enough heart to keep trying to come back- its not like its indecisiveness thats causing issues, just body troubles. Forsberg is a warrior and no one is giving him credit for continuing to battle.
I hope he comes back and stays healthy for at least another season. He'd be a MUCH better fit with the Avs than Philly, coming to Washington would suck for the East (and my hockey pool as Morrison probably wouldn't see as much time with Semin or OV).
The Avs are playing inspired hockey and winning, a healthy Forsberg could put them in a more stable position to being contenders and put them 1 step closer to the Blackhawks (who i think is the best in the West), LA and the Sharks.
Even if he comes to Philly or Washington, i don't think either of those teams will make it to the Finals, despite their big name players. I'm not convinced the coaching of either team is enough. Pittsburgh looks good, NJ is 8-4 without their all time leading scorer, and Buffalo looks solid. The Rangers D will be exposed (like NJ exposed them) and the team as a whole will eventually tire out by the end of a long playoff series.
I'm thinking Pittsburgh wins a best of 7 with NJ and beats Chicago in 7 in the finals... thus continuing Hossa's torment.

Peter Forsberg will like to signed with the Los Angeles Kings because the kings are now in 2nd place of the western Regular Standings because for Philadelpha Flyers is a okay team for Forsberg because for the Flyers got a little bit worst record so I say Peter Forsberg will land in Los Angeles with the kings for 4 years worth 40 million with the kings
