With Simon Gagne(notes) out for six to eight weeks, the Philadelphia Flyers might get a little jumpy when trying to find some quick offensive help, but it appears that Peter Forsberg(notes) isn't going to be a name that fills that need, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.
The word now apparently is that Swedish hockey legend Forsberg could be headed off to play for Russia's Kontinental League. Forsberg is supposedly planning on signing with Ak Bars Kazan for multiple years and megabucks.
The thought in some parts of the NHL is that Forsberg can't keep his right foot and ankle healthy anymore. He told the Colorado Avalanche two years ago that he was healthy. Then he played in 13 games for the team. That cost him a lot in GM offices around the league.
For now, he'll have to stick with the Swedish National Team. Worst case scenario, he'll play again for MoDo, his hometown team.

But everybody on skates knows that all these Russian leagues are just a cover for the mob.
His talent needs to be here. Less risk.

No wonder Phliar fans liked him, as that's all many of them seem to appreciate in a player. Good, keep longing for the '70's via the Carillo's of the world...there aren't many of them left in "the new NHL", eh? Where the hell has this style gotten the Phliars in the past 34 Cup-free seasons? The fans love the hitting, but the team keeps losing when it counts the most. Hell, even the Bruins finally figured out it's better to beat the Canadiens on the scoreboard than to beat 'em up while losing to 'em!
As predicted last summer, the Pronger trade is proving a mistake already, as Philly wasn't at a point in Homer's re-building program to go for the Cup by literally trading away their future for a 1-2 window to take a run. Nope, ain't gonna happen. Too brittle up front and STILL no goolie. Same as Clarkie's Phliar clubs eh?
Of course now the problem is Homer has few remaining avenues to develop his own goolie. No high picks. The club's in salary cap jail, especially with the cap being lowered next season. Prudent management? I don't think so. but as long as we have people with Clarkie's mentality around the club ("I really like Proger's meanness." said "Bob" at Pronger's press conference...WHERE has that gotten ya Philly? WHERE? Phliars D is STILL a problem, Kimmo's okay but not strong, Carle's streaky, Coburn can now safely be declared a bust who will likely only blossom with a change of scenery (or coaching).
One more time: Eph Clarkie and his comrade in spirit Foppa. Great players who were too dirty for their own good, and hid behind their teammates. Now there's a winning formula eh?

Wow you seem to know everything about the Flyers and hockey in general....Not! Tell me how after 12 games of an 82 game season you can declare that the Pronger Trade is a bust? (He's plus 8 with 11 points in 12 games). Also please don't speak for all Philadelphia fans with your ignorant comments, just because you think you know what you're talking about. Pronger has been great so far for the Flyers. Coburn is going through a bit of a slump that's all, and Carle has been one of the better D-men in the NHL so far this season (plus 11, 12 points in 12 games -yeah, real "streaky"). Again with the goalie situation if you 've watched any Flyers games this season you would know that Emery's played well, and has been spectacular at times.
Again: It's 12 games into the Flyers saeson and just a little too early to declare any busts. If you've followed hockey in the past, you would know that when new players come in to a team it takes a while for chemistry to develop, and for the coaches to find the best D pairings and line combos. Don't let your wishful thinking get in the way of reality here. Why don't you wait until, say, midseason befor you start declaring which trades were busts and which weren't. The Flyers are going to be right there at the end and will undoubtedly be strong in the playoffs. In short, keep your foolish comments to yourself and stop trying to act like you're a hockey expert!
