NHL - Sports Rumors

“PeterWith Simon Gagne(notes) out for six to eight weeks, the Philadelphia Flyers might get a little jumpy when trying to find some quick offensive help, but it appears that Peter Forsberg(notes) isn't going to be a name that fills that need, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

The word now apparently is that Swedish hockey legend Forsberg could be headed off to play for Russia's Kontinental League. Forsberg is supposedly planning on signing with Ak Bars Kazan for multiple years and megabucks.

The thought in some parts of the NHL is that Forsberg can't keep his right foot and ankle healthy anymore. He told the Colorado Avalanche two years ago that he was healthy. Then he played in 13 games for the team. That cost him a lot in GM offices around the league.

For now, he'll have to stick with the Swedish National Team. Worst case scenario, he'll play again for MoDo, his hometown team.

Glad the Flyers aren't picking him up again. They have enough trouble keeping people healthy.

Forsberg will NOT play in the KHL. He's a competitor and he want to play against the best competition in the world--- NHL. It's a stupid rumor.

He is not Brett favre on ice. He is injury prone due to the way he plays 110% all the time. He is not a camera whore like favre. Only hoping he can lace em for Sweden in 2010. Should be odds on favorite for the gold.

I hope Foppa signs a HUGE contract for about 10 years to play in the KHL so we can all quit listening to this crap every year. He WAS one of the best to play the game, but, he's done in the NHL in my opinion. I also wish him nothing but good luck in his future hockey endeavors.

He needs to be done...no one cares any more. He'll play for a few games, get hurt again, and then we can deal with his come back next year.

FO-PAAAH !!! Are you people kidding me? Put him on the ice wearing tennis shoes and using only a golf club, he'll have more assists than 90% of the league. I hope the Av's sign him - even with the foot problems - other teams won't be able to keep him off the score sheet, and believe me, they'll worry about #21 when he's on the ice.

He's injury prone because he is old, and past his prime. He was a great player that has been bumped to the good player status. If he stays healthy long enough to play a season, good for him he is a fun guy to watch, but he is getting old and can't stay healthy, bottom line.

come back to Colorado. i love how well they're playing after being predicted to be a bottom 3 team in the league, adding Forsberg would be icing on the cake.

Peter The Great is exactly that.
But everybody on skates knows that all these Russian leagues are just a cover for the mob.
His talent needs to be here. Less risk.

GO AWAY or PLAY, I say screw him and his ego, piss off Forsburg, too old to play here anymore. Some younger dude would plant him and he would last about 15 games before being sent to the IR until playoffs. WEAK SAUCE, you're out, stay out!

"Foppa" was of course a great player, one of the best passers in NHL history, smart, clever. Also sneaky-Swede dirty in the finest tradition of Ulffie Slewfoot, bordering on filthy in fact.
No wonder Phliar fans liked him, as that's all many of them seem to appreciate in a player. Good, keep longing for the '70's via the Carillo's of the world...there aren't many of them left in "the new NHL", eh? Where the hell has this style gotten the Phliars in the past 34 Cup-free seasons? The fans love the hitting, but the team keeps losing when it counts the most. Hell, even the Bruins finally figured out it's better to beat the Canadiens on the scoreboard than to beat 'em up while losing to 'em!
As predicted last summer, the Pronger trade is proving a mistake already, as Philly wasn't at a point in Homer's re-building program to go for the Cup by literally trading away their future for a 1-2 window to take a run. Nope, ain't gonna happen. Too brittle up front and STILL no goolie. Same as Clarkie's Phliar clubs eh?
Of course now the problem is Homer has few remaining avenues to develop his own goolie. No high picks. The club's in salary cap jail, especially with the cap being lowered next season. Prudent management? I don't think so. but as long as we have people with Clarkie's mentality around the club ("I really like Proger's meanness." said "Bob" at Pronger's press conference...WHERE has that gotten ya Philly? WHERE? Phliars D is STILL a problem, Kimmo's okay but not strong, Carle's streaky, Coburn can now safely be declared a bust who will likely only blossom with a change of scenery (or coaching).
One more time: Eph Clarkie and his comrade in spirit Foppa. Great players who were too dirty for their own good, and hid behind their teammates. Now there's a winning formula eh?

    @Andreracicot.
Wow you seem to know everything about the Flyers and hockey in general....Not! Tell me how after 12 games of an 82 game season you can declare that the Pronger Trade is a bust? (He's plus 8 with 11 points in 12 games). Also please don't speak for all Philadelphia fans with your ignorant comments, just because you think you know what you're talking about. Pronger has been great so far for the Flyers. Coburn is going through a bit of a slump that's all, and Carle has been one of the better D-men in the NHL so far this season (plus 11, 12 points in 12 games -yeah, real "streaky"). Again with the goalie situation if you 've watched any Flyers games this season you would know that Emery's played well, and has been spectacular at times.
Again: It's 12 games into the Flyers saeson and just a little too early to declare any busts. If you've followed hockey in the past, you would know that when new players come in to a team it takes a while for chemistry to develop, and for the coaches to find the best D pairings and line combos. Don't let your wishful thinking get in the way of reality here. Why don't you wait until, say, midseason befor you start declaring which trades were busts and which weren't. The Flyers are going to be right there at the end and will undoubtedly be strong in the playoffs. In short, keep your foolish comments to yourself and stop trying to act like you're a hockey expert!

Hearing about Forsberg in November is very odd.I've become accustomed to hearing about him in February when hes out cherry-picking a team thats already on the verge of the playoffs rather than signing earlier and actually HELPING a team make the playoffs.Oh wait...his helping days are done now so he just rides the coattails to get a shot at another cup.

I am so sick of people trying to discredit one of the most respected athletes on the planet. He never told the Avs, he was healthy they talked in to play, and were willing to take a chance on him. This is a player who "retired" from hockey so Avs could use his salary on other players, when he was injured a few years back. You won't see many players do that. So please keep your hatred on Foppa real.

Nobody will touch this guy, unless he agrees to a league minimum with salary bonuses. This will be the only way he will play here, and if he truely wants to play here, he will sign for that contract. If then, he proves healthy and has a good year, then of coarse contracts will go up. But, for someone whom was unhealthy and still managed a point per game, then one year to prove it again, would be benefical for him. Come to the Preds again, they could use some scoring and play makers.

Listen, I love Peter the Great as an Avs fan... but I thought it was dumb to sign him 2 years ago, and I still think it is dumb. I love watching the guy play, he still can play... but he can't stay healthy. Until they create robot feet and ankles for him, he is not worth the money that it would take to sign him. The only reason he should come back to the NHL is to retire as an Av. But they are already the last NHL team he played for, so it doesn't matter.
