NHL - Sports Rumors

Professional hockey players throughout North America very briefly celebrated when they staged a coup to take over the NHL Players Association back in August, but things rapidly changed and players were unhappy with the new head, Ian Penny.

Now it appears that Penny is getting ready to resign, according to the Toronto Sun. He apparently sent a confusing memo to the Executive Board of the union saying as much.

Guess he's been feeling pretty powerless since young Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby(notes) made him hang up the phone during a conference call the other day so there could be a players-only part of the call.

It remains to be seen who could take over and make this bunch happy.

Way too much is being made of Sidney Crosby's part in the conference call. Crosby's stance in all of this means little to the union. Penny never should have been named head of the NHLPA in the first place. Crosby "forcing" him off the phome during a teleconference hardly warrants a mention.

Skip-O-Matic you are a dirty douche-bag bent on nothing more than dismissing Crosby. It is interesting to see a young superstar in any sport take a stand like Crosby did. It speaks to his character off the ice. Fans are interested in more than what he means on ice. Makes people wonder what he might do going forward.

Crosby has nothing to do with this. Its the media trying to make him more than a hockey star. The NHLPA screwed up back in the strike year, when they let a season go and still made the same basic(money) concessions. As is with all sports(besides NFL) , you have to contract the teams that are constantly losing money(ie no viable fan base). that would include up to 8 hockey teams(save the teams and put them back in Canada), 6 NBA teams and another 6 MLB teams. It would do wonders for each league, better quality even on the bad teams. If sports is all about the money why are they keeping these awful going no where money losing franchises(ie Phoenix Coyotes, any non-football florida team)

Oh dear! redemption_value is calling me names on a messgae board. What shall I ever do? What a filthy mouth! I didn't think a Wal Mart greeter would use such language. But, I guess retards need to feel wanted too. It is funny to read the posts from people who know nothing about NHL hockey....or anything for that matter. "Crosby taking a stand" OMG. I laughed. I cried. It became a part of me! LOL!!!!!
