NHL - Sports Rumors

“NathanFlorida Panthers GM Randy Sexton says that he doesn't want to send forward Nathan Horton(notes) packing but the rumors persist that Horton is on the block, according to the Ottawa Sun.

The problem with dealing Horton has apparently been the $4 million contract that he's got. Horton, of course, has apparently made it clear to the team that he would prefer to not be playing hockey in the Sunshine State and wants to be in a "more traditional hockey environment." He's gotten off to a crummy start (2 goals, 1 assist, nine games) so maybe a change in scenery would be good for him.

I think Horton can be a very productive player on another team. He's been in Florida for a while and could prob use a fresh start.

forget him...who needs him...we shoulda traded his ass instead of somebody good that got axed...you dont wanna play here? bye bye...so long...go with God...and don't take any wooden nickles. Does he have any idea that there are tons of players(signed and not signed) that would KILL to be where he is...playing hockey AND soaking up the sun...and the way he's playing, he sure ain't earning that 4 million, that's for damn sure

He would be great in MTL... With Martin as coach, everything is possible... and Horton wants to play "in a more traditional hockey environment"....

Horton has had decent numbers in Florida but in perhaps the deepest draft class ever, he can't stack up to players selected after him like Vanek, Richards, Getzlaf, Carter, Parise and Perry. At least he played in the NHL for the team that drafted him (Hugh Jessiman...jerk).

I think he should get his wish of a trade. Atlanta, Tampa, Dallas, Phoenix, LA, you know one of those traditional hockey places;) Just be happy to be playing the game and getting paid to do it!

    Best fit, is probably Boston.
Tradition hockey location, with a need for a power forward, maybe he could be the motivating to get Patrice Bergeron going again.
Other options in my mind would include
Montreal- A need for a bigger body with good hands
Calgary- Sutter could motivate him, and probably get him to do what Dustin Penner is doing right now.
Toronto- Maybe Burke could make one right move for this franchise? Though they don't have highly skilled forwards to feed him the pick.

There has been two rumors linking him to deals to the two New York teams. One had him going to the Islanders along with Bryan McCabe for LW Sean Bergenhiem, D Radek Martinek, and a pick. The other had him going to the Rangers along with D Jordan Leopold for D Michal Roszival and F Aaron Voros.

A best fit, since Fla is familiar with the West coast dealing already, is to ship him here to Vancouver!
    Send Fla - Wellwood/ Demitra/ and a draft pick
To Van - Horton/ and a draft pick
Van line would belike this if it were to happen.....
    1st. D.Sedin,H.Sedin, Horton
    2nd. Samuelson, Kesler, Raymond
    3rd. Grabner, Rypien, Burrows
    4th. Glass, Johnson, Hordichuck
That is a mighty good line up if I say so!!!!
Come on Gillis make the move

too bad .there was a lot of hype when he got drafted.to be in the nhl is an honor and although he really does not wanna play in florida (cannot understand why not )trade him and leave the waves only on the ocean.an unhappy player is not fair to rest of the team.upsets the applecart.another no no giving these players the money they want and then when it comes time to trade them who really wants the baggage that goes with them.should have a salary cap and when they produce pay them .dwindle in production and they pay it back.and if they lose interest as this seems pack the bags for higher grounds .

The Bruins would have to unload either Krejci or Sturm in order to clear up the cap space for Horton, but I really don't see him coming to Boston. Toronto may be looking to make a blockbuster deal judging on their performance out of the gate.

@ #12- YES people still watch hockey. What an ignorant question. In fact, moreso than professional basketball. That's right. The numbers from last year show more people go to hockey games than they do basketball. And isn't it ironic that someone who tries to put down hockey was reading a hockey article AND actually posted a comment? What a moron.

Perhaps The preds would feel "crazy" enough to trade for him but unless Horton opens up offensively and plays better D I doubt anyone would risk the cap space.
