Ovechkin playing through rumors

Washington Capitals left wing Alexander Ovechkin, who can become a restricted free agent on July 1, has been the subject of some far-fetched trade rumours recently – with the latest one involving the Nashville Predators.

Owner Ted Leonsis downplayed speculation in his blog: "No mention of our team can pass, it seems, without noting Alex Ovechkin's contract status, and I can tell from postings in the blogosphere and message boards that this has a lot of fans worried," he wrote.

"As I have stated on numerous occasions, we couldn't be more impressed with Alex as a player and a person and we expect him to be in D.C. for a long, long time."

Other rumors have linked Ovechkin to the Montreal Canadiens and the Russian league.

teemu is UFA and Washington can sign him tomorrow, no Ducks permission needed..OV will be nuts to stay in Washington, no matter what he is offered

I've been a caps fan for 20 years. If the front office for this team decides to get rid of Ovechkin and destroy the team(as has happened before), then I will be thru spending my money on Caps tickets and merchandise forever. Why get rid of the best player the Caps have ever had? Build the team around Ovechkin, another player of his caliber may never come along again.

I did not say Teemu will play for Washinton, only that Ducks can't trade him, he is UFA, and no one has his rights but him

Alex Ovechkin deserves a large contract. He is by far the best offensive goal scorer in the league. If he actually had a decent line to play on that could work well with his chemistry, he would put up more assists. I don't see the Caps giving up this kid. Being he is my favorite player, I would love for him to be on the Red Wings (my fave team), but I mainly would like him to stay where he's at because I hate big name players who get bounced around. A hockey jersey is expensive!

OV is an amazing talent...One of a kind..He needs to get-out of Washington (I am 'Canes fan) so I do not really care what team he will play for, as long as true hockey fans can see him playing for contender (Montreal or Detroit fine with me)

ok look Ovechkin is a RFA at the end of season that means restricted free agent so no matter what the offer is Washington will match it and keep ovechkin

The Caps are already shorthanded on talent and since the lockout, I think the league did a pretty good job to keep some kind of parity among the teams. If Alex left DC, they'd be left with a few vets and too many young players that haven't reached a solid performance level yet.

id really like to see ovechkin go to montreal. i hate the canadians but the fans deserve some real talent on that team a real superstar and that person is ovechkin. the canadians need to be a good team id just like to see the bruins be a better team, i dont think ovechkin would end up a bruin as they have a great team of young players, the toughest thing for them this year is the absense of bergeron theres talk of hossa coming to boston too, that would be amazing.

I just can't see OV watching Crosby making run after run at Stanley Cup and scoring title and OV playing golf year after year
