Washington Capitals left wing Alexander Ovechkin, who can become a restricted free agent on July 1, has been the subject of some far-fetched trade rumours recently – with the latest one involving the Nashville Predators.
Owner Ted Leonsis downplayed speculation in his blog: "No mention of our team can pass, it seems, without noting Alex Ovechkin's contract status, and I can tell from postings in the blogosphere and message boards that this has a lot of fans worried," he wrote.
"As I have stated on numerous occasions, we couldn't be more impressed with Alex as a player and a person and we expect him to be in D.C. for a long, long time."
Other rumors have linked Ovechkin to the Montreal Canadiens and the Russian league.

OV is an amazing talent...One of a kind..He needs to get-out of Washington (I am 'Canes fan) so I do not really care what team he will play for, as long as true hockey fans can see him playing for contender (Montreal or Detroit fine with me)
