NHL Senior Executive Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell will review Saturday night's Tom Kostopoulos hit on Toronto's Mike Van Ryn, however a hearing has not yet been scheduled for the Montreal Canadiens' forward according to TSN.ca.

Van Ryn suffered a concussion, a gash on his forehead, a broken nose and a broken bone in his hand and early reports state he could be gone for a month.

Kostopoulos was ejected from the game with a major penalty for boarding.

Determining if supplemental discipline is required will include Hockey Operations dealing with a couple of key questions. Did Van Ryn put himself in a vulnerable position? Did Kostopoulos have sufficient time to 'let up'? The significance of Van Ryn's injuries will also be taken into consideration.

Van Ryn's teammates rallied to his defense after Toronto's 6-3 win.

"It was a dirty hit," Leafs forward Matt Stajan told reporters following the game. "It's something that can't happen in the game. Luckily, we made them pay."

Not the dirtiest of hits this season, but worthy of a suspension.

did not turn at the last second - he followed his numbers in from 10-15 feet out. should be out as long as van ryn is.

It's worthy of a suspension. The league needs to send a message to their players that this kind of behavior will NOT be tolerated.

Ryn totally turned into the hit. he faked one way and turned the other which resulted in the hit from behind. Maybe he should stop being a douche and take the hit like a man next time and he wouldn't end up in hospital. Kosto should get a game or two for it, but blame is still on Van Ryn in my opinion.

Clean hit!! Van Ryn is a [profane] If he would have done what every kid since they were twelve was tought and hugged the boards he would have been fine. Sore as hell but no injury. He didnt want to pay the price for the puck sp he tried to avoid the hit. Typical Toronto fans, a leaf player makes a retarded move and its everyone elses fault

What was worse was three players skating over Carey Price. If Kotsopolous is suspended then all three of those goons should be suspended. They had more time to decide what they were doing.

G.G ur an idiot. first off the strongest, toughest guy in the 70's wouldnt even be close to the guys who play the game today. Maybe they would be dirtier but in a fight or in the corners id take a present day NHLer anydya. They're bigger, faster, stronger and have twice the amount of skill. Generation after generation athletes evolve and become better. so talking bout the 70's is bull [profane].

Yet another hit where the hitter gets blamed for the stupid actions of the player about to be hit... had he skated to the boards like you are taught in pew wee hockey, to not take a hit 3 feet from the boards... cause why... you fly into them and get hurt... In the NHL you cant let up, you have to play 110% every shift of every game or you wont have a spot on your team or in the NHL... players that get hit like this and get hurt need to learn how to take a hit.... how many D go back for a puck, take a hit and are fine, because they use the boards to absorb the hit.... Im tired of seeing players get suspended for players that try and stop to make a play and get hurt... just like open ice hit... keep your head up and it wont happen... DONT STOP 3 feet from the boards when a 200 lbs man is on your back... its not going to end well...

from my perspective on being a hockey player we hate to hit people from behind but if they do turn at the last second we do tend to let up as much as we can tho we are going full speed for a clean hit but things happen and fortunatley he did not break his neck

yeah ryn put himself in a bad position but dude, be real. kosto should have and could have let up. his fault for finishing the hit. maybe next time ryn thinks twice before making a questionable move and maybe kosto thinks twice before planting someone's forehead into the dasher.
