NHL - Sports Rumors

“MiroslavAfter being a bit of a bust during his stay with the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins, Miroslav Satan(notes) apparently wants to return to the team he skated with from 2005-08: the New York Islanders.

Satan apparently enjoyed his time with the Islanders and would love to rejoin the team, according to New York Newsday. Even though he was part of a Stanley Cup winner, you can be sure Satan doesn't want to repeat much of last season, during which he got sent down to the minors due to salary-cap reasons.

Past rumors this summer had the Buffalo Sabres, the Philadelphia Flyers, and Detroit Red Wings interested in Satan but he supposedly prefers the Islanders.

Uh. Just so you're aware. I can guarantee the Sabres are no longer interested in Miro. The Sabres let him walk as a free agent; it wasn't a $ issue like Drury or Briere, they just don't like his style of play. He was a soft, Euro, perimeter player.

no, not good riddance. he's a hell of a player, good locker room guy too. it just took him time to adjust into a new system and then the system changed halfway through the season. He performed well when called upon in the playoffs. A lot of players would complain and cause issues if they got sent to the minors. Kudos to him for his professionalism and I hope he has success in NY.

Satan still has skills, but for some reason he never adapted to being on Pittsburgh's 2nd/3rd line. As silly as this sounds, he needs to be on a team with less talent than Pittsburgh in order for him to excel. Going back to the Islanders could be a good way for him to score more, have more fun (though I'm not sure how losing and having no chance at winning the Cup is fun), and wind down his career.

Dammit Miro, sign with the Devils! You'll more than make up for any pay cut you need to take in jersey royalties.

I think Satan is just past his prime. He is still a pretty good player, but he is definitely not as good as he was in his early Buffalo days. If he wants to go to New York that's his choice...he's earned it after all the years he put in. As a Pens fan I was glad to see him hoist the cup for the first time, and now it's his time to end his career where he wants.

Of course he does. Any team that allows him to be soft and have a less than stellar work ethic is of course where he'd want to be.

Towards the last part of the season, he went a long way towards redeeming himself, as far as work ethic goes. As a Pens fan, I'd be glad to have him back, even though I had given up on him in December or so.

I think the headlines should have read: Miroslav Satan wants to be employed!
Why hasn't anyone signed Sykora yet either?
He is a decent player that could help a lot of teams.
He should join "The Piece" in LA.

i dont think Buffalo would be a good fit the way the sabres are becoming a tougher team. i think he is just too soft. This isnt to say when he was with buffalo it was a soft team expecialy with player like matt barnaby and the rob ray plus the islanders can use all the help they can get expecially with all the new guys comin a vetrin is what they can use expecially now that he has won a cup.

As a Pittsburgh fan, I don't really think I'll miss him. I'll take Guerin and Kunitz over Fedotenko and Satan any day of the week. You notice how the Penguins got out of the gates so poorly last year? Well, they got rid of all their grit. No Roberts, Laraque, Malone or Ruutu. The Pens need some gritty players like Guerin and Kunitz, who also have a bit of a scoring touch, to keep other teams from gunning to take Crosby's head off. Satan certainly wasn't going to do that, so I'm not so sad to see him go. I'm sorry, but I don't care what system you're playing in. If you can't score 20-25 goals and get 50 points when you're playing with Malkin or Crosby, you're just not good enough. The Pens do need to get busy and sign a few guys though, 'cause the roster is looking pretty much like one line of offense, one line of defense, a goalie, Malkin and Staal. Goligoski and Letang are alright by me, but I'm upset about losing Hal Gill, even if he was slow. Dude was huge in the middle and with the addition of Chris Pronger to the division, you know Philly is gonna' look to smash Crosby. Get me someone mean, Shero. No more pansies like Satan.

@ Brock W ..... The pens are one of a few teams that made great moves this summer .... They are better off starting this season than they were starting last ... Feds is here to stay, Rupp, McKee are both solid players on the cheap ... with no room in the cap we are pulling up some solid guys from Wilkes-Barre in Lovejoy and Goligoski who are both ready for the NHL ... lovejoy will be a great fourth liner and Goligoski will be a great rookie defenseman with a scoring touch ... I would venture to guess that Goligoski will have a 25-30 point season with the way he can pass and shoot ....
Third SCF appearance in as many years with a possible back to back cup win ....

Actually, pensfan1982, Lovejoy is a defenseman and will likely be their 7th defenseman this year unless there are injuries.

Satan should be playing for the Devils. Too bad he isn't good enough for them. Neither is he good enough to play for the Sabres. That's why we dumped him. He is really good at scoring goals when his team is ahead, but when they are behind he almost always seems to miss the net or some hit the post or find some other way to fail. He was nearly invisible in the Cup finals. Pittsburgh was smart enough to dump him this summer. The Islanders management may be just stupid enough to take him back. The islanders management make Regier, or any other GM for that matter, look like a genius.
