The Pittsburgh Penguins need to decide whether hard-hitting defenseman Brooks Orpik will remain in their long-term plans. Orpik is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the season the Buffalo News reported.
Orpik would command a big bump from his $1.075 million salary if he hits the open market. He's big, dependable and hits like a truck. He also has the one thing he lacked earlier in his career: experience.
Orpik could draw interest from the New York Rangers, who have four defensemen ready to hit the open market after this season.
