Flyers after Brendan Shanahan?

“BrendanThe Philadelphia Flyers may have lost forward Simon Gagne(notes) for some time with two small hernias that will likely need surgery so the team's supposed interest in signing veteran free agent Brendan Shanahan(notes) is apparently growing, according to the Cherry Hill Courier Post.

The 40-year-old left wing was thought to be returning to the New Jersey Devils this season but the sides surprisingly parted only hours before the regular season got underway. Shanahan supposedly was the one who actually left camp, saying he didn't think things were a great fit. The Flyers supposedly nearly signed Shanahan last January.

simon gagne when healthy is a 40 goal guy.
shanahan proved last season age has caught up with him by tallying 6 goals?
it was only 34 games but double it and he still doesnt even give you 15 goals for a full season
look elsewhere shanny is done. and im a devils fan and a huge shanny fan from back in his rookie season

i like shanny as well, but we don't need him. he is a sure hf, but we are already stocked with talented forwards. our problem is coaching. that wood stick that stands behind the bench (stevens) is holding the team back. everyone knows he is the primary weak link on the team currently. come on homer, dump him sooner rather than later! it's going to happen anyway this season so get it over with so the team can start living up to its potential.

Brendan Shanahan? Don't they need a goalie more than an aging forward?

No, no, no, no. Signing Shanahan would be a mistake. He has made it clear he wants to play on a top 2 line and he is not among the top 6 forwards on any NHL team, let alone Philadelphia. Holmgren has no business even considering signing him.....at all.

This "rumor" has no basis. The Flyers already came out and said this isn't an option. Def get rid of Stevens and see how the team responds. The season is obviously very early and the team just needs a kick in the as$.

We have great young forwards who deserve time on the top 2 lines, not this washed up player. Yes he was good in his day but this isnt an old mans league anymore. With the exception of Mark Rechhi

He's staying retired. His agent essentially said that last week when asked if the Bruins had contacted him when Lucic and Savard went down. Both teams could use him, yes, but what else does he have to prove? First ballot Hall of Famer and he got to leave on his own terms, what more could you ask for? He doesn't want to be a 3rd/4th line novelty act getting 10 minutes of ice time a game, if that much. If he wanted that, he would've stayed with the Devils.

I still do not she old man shanny coming to Phily, but with the Kings claiming Randy Jones off Re-entry Waivers it will be fun to see what or who the flyers bring up to fill a spot on the roster.

Using the word "supposedly" in every sentence doesn't lend much credence to this report. Either does modifying it with "apparently," "actually," or "nearly." Is there anything factual about what you are saying, or are you just speculating on a rumor?

Bring in SANNY would be a great move. On Gange as much as I hate to say this, the FLyers need to find a way to part wats with this kid. He seems always hurt. And I feel fir him, cuase he is a great player with alot of heart, jusr what we want in Philly. But, really we need to just get draft picks or something.

anyone that thinks signing shanahan is a stupid idea, is a complete idiot. two seasons ago the man still scored over 20 goals. he plays the pk and pp. look how he turned the NYR around when he was in the lineup. you're a freakin moron if you think age has anything to do with his ability to play. I can't wait to see him back in the game to stick it to NYR and NJD.
