New York Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro left Wednesday night's 4-3 overtime win over the Toronto Maple Leafs after the first period with a knee injury, which means that Wade Dubielewicz likely will play the entire game Wednesday against the Ottawa Senators the New York Daily News reported.

Dubielewicz said he was "on alert" that he might be needed after DiPietro tweaked his knee during warmups, but the franchise netminder convinced Ted Nolan to let him start, and DiPietro made seven saves on nine shots before the pain became too much.

"I don't think it's really serious," Islanders coach Ted Nolan said. "But knowing how important Ricky is, we're going to keep him back (today) and get him an MRI."

I hope he is back soon. Great goalie! As a Ranger fan I like the competition. He makes the Islanders a better team.

I agree he is coming into his own finally. Maybe we'll have a shot at Gold in the next Olympics if he stays consistent

robo your a iidot do you know why dipi signed a 15 yr deal with the islanders? and lost out on money? well for your information it's because he wants to be a islander for his career. Lived on LI and wants to play on LI.

DiPietro is better than Miller, behind a lousier defense, no less:
    DiPietro: 2.47 GAA, .910 SV%
    Miller: 2.68 GAA, .905 SV%
The only exception is that Miller has taken ~30 more SOG from opposing teams, but I would attribute that to the fact that he's played in slightly more minutes than Rick has.

You REALLY think Ryan Miller would have done better than DP? Really? Wow. You're as ignorant as you sound.

Miller and Dipietro are two good goalies that should be rated in the exact same category. The only difference why both guys don't have the same stats, is, team oriented strategies that differs a lot from each other. Buffalo's pushed hard to skate fast and rely heavily on precision passing at the same time compared to NYIslanders dumping system and team focus first on backchecking. It is absolutely normal to see Dipietro with better stats because he has Nolan instructing everyone to get back hard in the zone to help him out. Buffalo, will get caught on 3 -2 and 2-1 often and the quality chances for their opponents will be higher than New-York's chances given.
Miller would do as good as Dipietro with the Islanders.
Your STATS shown will only say than one goalie is helped a little more from his team concepts.

Diepietro overhandles the puck too often. Needs to tone it down.

DP will win at least 2 cups during those 15 years!
Once the Islanders get a goal scorer or 2 so he doesn't pressure himself to pitch a shutout or give up just 1 goal...watch out!

great evaluation. i agree completely. i am a diehard islanders fan and love dipi to death, but we cant go around saying he is the best goalie in the east. lundquvist (it kills me to admit this) is putting up better numbers this season on a team less focused on defense. you can make a case for many goalies in the east plugging them into nolan's defensive system. but all in all dipi is a top goalie and the perfect type for nolan's system.
and whats this talk about cups? islander fans wake up. yea a 15 year deal is cool, but it will be half over before we recover from some of the mike millbury moves... and thats if garth snow's gm skills can match his sense of humor

When ya got nothing but hockey in your country, you become really attached to it. I pity you. You still have the Blue Jays, don't you? How are those Raptors doing? And that Canadian football, if you want to call that football. Oh, but you do have socialized medicine. Those with money (and don't want to wait)come to the states to get their surgery.
