NHL - Sports Rumors

It was at the 6:12 mark of the third period Tuesday night that many fans of the Boston Bruins thought they say their Stanley Cup changes skate off the ice with Marc Savard(notes) and his right knee injury.

However, the Boston Globe reported the injury is not serious and Savard will be able to play in Game 7, Thurdsay. Boston coach Claude Julien said he sent Savard to the dressing room as a precaution.

"He'll be fine for the next game," Julien said.

The Bruins could hardly afford to lose Savard, who scored last night's game-winning goal. Savard was injured during a power play to open the third period when he had a knee-on-knee collision with Carolina forward Chad LaRose(notes). Savard remained down for several moments before he skated to the bench with assistance from Patrice Bergeron(notes) and trainer Don DelNegro. He took two more shifts before leaving for good, according to the Globe.

Savard (6-6 -12) is tied with Michael Ryder(notes) (5-7 -12) as the Bruins' leading scorer in the playoffs.

He's been money in the playoffs, scoring more than expected. He keeps up the solid play they'll take the cup.

It's amazing how schizophrenic the Bruins can be on a shift-by-shift basis. One shift they look unbeatable and the next they are horribly sloppy. They might get by the Hurricanes playing this way, but they'll get hammered in the next round by either opponent. Consistency, fellas... it should be your mantra from here on in.

I've heard/read a few places today confirming Savard will be fine and play tomorrow night, which is great news for the Bruins. All the momentum is theirs going into the game. No pun intended, but down 3-1 in the series, they stared the eye of the hurricane in the face and never blinked. In fact, they've blown them away! Facing elimination, outscoring the Canes 8-2 in those 2 games and flat out out-playing them on both ends of the ice. I would think the Canes have come too far between their late regular season run and so far in these playoffs to just continue they way they have played the last 2 games, so it should be a much better game. We shall see.

Savard is key for the B's. Without him or Ward, this series would be over. That said, the Bruins are the far better team, despite the 3 game slump this series. When both teams are playing their best, the Bruins are far deeper and more talented at all positions. There's really no other way to slice all the information. If the B's stay sharp, and play better than game 6 (which they only looked good for about 2/3 of the game), they should wrap it up and be off to the Finals.

savard and larose are like preschoolers compared to the sizes of samulesson and neely - the latter's collision was at near full speed with probably close to an added 100 lb to it. savard will be fine and bruin's fans are extremely fortunate - without savard as the playmaker kessel will not score (especially in these playoffs), severley choking the bruin's offense.
