The Oilers got off to a quick start with a short-handed goal 1:22 into the game. Eberle fought off Patrick Marleau(notes) on his way to the net and beat Sharks goalie Antero Niittymaki(notes) for his second highlight-reel goal of the season.
The Sharks took a 2-1 lead in the second period as Couture stripped the puck from defenseman Jim Vandermeer(notes) behind the Edmonton net and sent it in front to Jamie McGinn(notes). Khabibulin made the initial stop, but Couture backhanded in the rebound.
San Jose took a two-goal lead with just over a minute left in the second period during another power play. Pavelski batted his own rebound out of the air and into the net. The Sharks also rang two shots off goal posts in the second period.
San Jose took control of the game for good with two goals 20 seconds apart before five minutes were gone in the third period. Pavelski faked a shot in tight before sending the puck to Clowe for the tap in. Boyle then scored with a shot from the point through traffic to make it 5-1 on San Jose’s third power-play goal.
