Fleischmann, Capitals top ‘Canes 4-1
Fleischmann got the scoring started by knocking a rebound past Carolina goalie Cam Ward some 6 minutes into the game. Bradley added a goal a little over a minute later when he snapped a wrist shot past Ward from deep in the slot.
Ward gave up goals on two of the first three shots he faced and finished with 12 saves in 30 minutes.
After Pitkanen’s goal midway through the second made it 2-1, Perreault finished off a scramble in front of the Carolina net by pushing the puck past Justin Peters, who relieved Ward. Fleischmann finished the scoring with a power-play goal late in the second.
Carolina defenseman Tim Gleason left in the second with what the team called a leg injury and didn’t return.
