Jeff Hoggan scores 2 goals as Boston defeats New York Islanders 3-1

Preview | Box Score | Recap

ST. JOHN’S, Newfoundland (AP)—Jeff Hoggan scored two goals and the Boston Bruins exploited the Islanders’ shaky defense in a 3-1 preseason victory over New York on Tuesday night.

Though there was nothing at stake, the teams treated the rugged game as though it were a regular-season matchup. Tension boiled over several times, and Islanders enforcer Kip Brennan took down hulking Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara in a fight.

Chuck Kobasew added a goal for the Bruins, who dominated play throughout the game. Defenseman Chris Campoli had the Islanders’ only goal.
