Red Wings 4, Oilers 3, SO

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP)—Jason Williams and Henrik Zetterberg beat Dwayne Roloson in a shootout to give the NHL-leading Detroit Red Wings their fifth straight victory, 4-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night.

Zetterberg, Tomas Holmstrom and Chris Chelios scored in regulation, and Manny Legace made 25 saves to help Detroit push its points total to 97, one more than Eastern Conference co-leaders Carolina and Ottawa. The Red Wings are 13-2 since Jan. 30.

Roloson stopped Pavel Datsyuk on Detroit’s first attempt in the shootout, and Edmonton’s Fernando Pisani shot wide on the Oilers’ first try.

Williams then beat Roloson with a forehand shot after a deke, Legace stopped Sergei Samsonov, and Zetterberg won it on Detroit’s third shot.

Pisani forced the overtime, scoring short-handed with 2:57 left in regulation.

Chelios tied it at 2 with 5:07 left in the second period, beating Dwayne Roloson on a power play off an assist from Zetterberg, and Holmstrom put the Red Wings ahead at 4:12 of the third with his 22nd goal of the season.

Zetterberg opened the scoring at 10:08 of the first, his 35th goal of the season and 17th on the power play. Jarret Stoll tied it with 7:13 left in the first, and Steve Staios put the Oilers in front with 8:03 remaining in the second.

Roloson made 24 saves for the Oilers.

Notes

Legace improved to 29-8-2. … Detroit was 2-for-5 on the power play, and Edmonton was 0-for-6. … Zetterberg has nine goals in his last eight games. … Oilers captain Jason Smith recorded his 100th career assist.
