Heatley scored twice Thursday in Ottawa’s 5-2 win Thursday over the Boston Bruins, extending his points streak to 14 games.
The 24-year-old right wing has 13 goals and 13 assists during the streak. The old record was set by Marian Hossa, who had 12 goals and 10 assists in a 13-game run from Nov. 6-30, 2002.
Heatley was acquired by the Senators from the Atlanta Thrashers for Hossa just before the start of the season.
“He is a great stickhandler, knows where to be on the ice and where to shoot the puck,” Senators goaltender Dominik Hasek said of Heatley.
Alfredsson has eight goals and 10 assists in a seven-game points streak while Spezza has two goals and 17 assists in a 10-game streak.
Ottawa is 9-0 against Northeast Division rivals this season and have outscored Buffalo 15-4 in two games.
Buffalo snapped a four-game skid and moved back to .500 with a 5-2 win Friday over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
“It’s really satisfying,” said Connolly, who missed the entire 2003-04 season with a concussion. “After the second period I said to myself, ‘I haven’t had two goals yet … maybe it will happen tonight.”’
He has two goals and three assists during a season-best three-game points streak. He has failed to score a point in his last eight games versus Ottawa dating back to March 19, 2002.
Buffalo will be looking for better production from goalies Martin Biron and Mika Noronen. In a 10-4 loss Nov. 2 to Ottawa, Biron yielded six goals on 19 shots. Noronen gave up four goals on only 17 shots.
If Biron gets the start, he try to record consecutive wins for the first time this season. He is 9-6-2 with a 2.60 goals-against average and two career shutouts against the Senators.
