The Detroit Red Wings look to extend a season-high, seven-game unbeaten streak and increase their lead in the Western Conference as they host the Nashville Predators.

The Red Wings beat the Dallas Stars 3-0 on Saturday, improving to 6-0-1 over their last seven games. Kirk Maltby, Brett Hull and Darren McCarty scored for Detroit, whose 94 points lead the West. Colorado is in second place, three points behind the Red Wings.

Goalie Manny Legace has been a big reason for Detroit’s recent success.

Legace, who started the season as the Red Wings’ No. 3 goalie behind Dominik Hasek and Curtis Joseph, has seen a considerable amount of action because of injuries to the top two netminders. Legace had 31 saves for his second shutout of the season against the Stars, and has gone 8-1-1 over his last 10 decisions.

“I felt pretty good out there—comfortable,” he said. “It’s nice to be a part of the winning firsthand.”

Detroit’s penalty-killing unit, which ranks first in the league, has also been solid. The Red Wings have not allowed a power-play goal in their last 10 games.

The Predators are coming off Saturday’s 4-4 tie with the Calgary Flames, extending their winless streak to four games (0-2-2).

Nashville allowed the game-tying goal 31 seconds into the third period, but coach Barry Trotz was still pleased with his team’s effort.

“We did a lot of good things,” Trotz said. “We just have to respond. We got the lead, we’ve got to make sure we squeeze the life out of them.”

The Predators are tied for seventh place in the Eastern Conference with St. Louis, one point ahead of ninth-place Los Angeles.

“You don’t want to slide at all,” forward Scott Walker said. “It’s better than no points, but we had our chances to get two, and we felt we should’ve had it.

“We’re going to stay positive and be happy with the point. It’s too late in the year to start being negative.”
