The Stars only other three-game win streak was Nov. 24-Nov. 28. They lost five straight after that, but have gone 4-1-1 in their last six games.
Much of the recent success of the Stars can be credited to the line of Mike Modano, Jere Lehtinen and Brenden Morrow. Modano and Morrow, who went 11 games without a goal, both scored in a 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday.
Lehtinen scored two goals and had an assist to lead the Stars to a 3-1 victory Monday night over the Carolina Hurricanes.
“I thought we got a great effort from a lot of people,” Stars coach Dave Tippett said. “I thought he (Lehtinen) was at the front of that line. Just the effort he put in on the winning goal is phenomenal.”
Morrow also scored Monday for the Stars, who have just 70 goals—tied for fourth-fewest in the league. Dallas went seven consecutive games in which they scored just one goal each time before a 3-1 win over Vancouver on Dec. 17.
“It was a big win,” Lehtinen said. “I hope we keep up this pace. I haven’t scored too many goals. The whole team hasn’t scored all that many goals. It was nice to get more than one goal, and nice to get the win.”
The Stars have survived partly due to the play of goaltender Marty Turco, who has allowed just one goal in each the last six games, and has given up two or fewer in 13 of his last 15 starts.
“Marty is too good and too strong mentally not to come back,” Dallas’ Bill Guerin said. “Even when we were losing, it probably wasn’t Marty’s fault. We just weren’t scoring. He’s been playing great for six weeks now. If we could just find the net more it would make things a lot better for us.”
The Predators are coming off a 3-3 tie with the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday, the first of a four-game road trip. Nashville is 4-1-1-1 in its last seven games away from home.
It was the second straight tie for the Predators, who went 3-3 with the Coyotes on Monday.
“Every point is so important,” Predators coach Barry Trotz said. “You don’t want to lose any ground.”
Dallas has won 14 of 21 meetings and is 9-2 at home in the series.
