EDMONTON, ALBERTA (TICKER) —The Phoenix Coyotes try to follow up on their highest scoring performance of the season when they continue a continue a three-game road trip with a visit to the Edmonton Oilers.
Phoenix scored four times in the first period as it cruised to a 7-1 rout at Calgary on Thursday. Rookie Ramzi Abid scored twice on the power play to highlight the outburst and defenseman Ossi Vaananen and Daymond Langkow also tallied.
Defenseman Deron Quint added three assists for Phoenix, which has won two straight and allowed only three goals in its last three games. Coyotes netminder Zac Bierk had a busy night as he stopped 39 shots.
This is the second meeting between Phoenix and Edmonton this season. Langkow scored the game-winner with 29 seconds left in overtime as the Coyotes posted a 4-3 victory on December 30.
Edmonton needed overtime in its last game, a 4-3 victory over Detroit on Wednesday. Defenseman Eric Brewer got his first game-winning goal of the season 1:42 into overtime. Anson Carter scored twice for his third multi-goal game of the season and rookie Jani Rita added his first career goal.
The Oilers are 3-1-0-1 on their last six games.
