Zhamnov was slashed on the left hand in the first period of Wednesday’s 4-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings. He did not play Friday or Saturday when the Blackhawks suffered consecutive 4-2 losses to Vancouver and St. Louis.
On Saturday, rookie goaltender Michael Leighton allowed goals to Martin Rucinsky and defenseman Alexander Khavanov 34 seconds apart as the Blackhawks fell to 7-9-5-2 on the road. The Blackhawks had recorded at least a point in 14 straight games before Friday’s loss.
Columbus has followed a three-game winning streak with three straight defeats. On Saturday, former Blackhawks Jaroslav Spacek and Andrew Cassels scored for the Blue Jackets in a 7-2 loss to the Boston Bruins. Spacek was acquired from Chicago last March with a second-round pick for fellow defenseman Odelein.
The Blue Jackets are 11-9-1-1 at home, but have lost their last two games here.
The Blackhawks have won two of three meetings from the Blue Jackets this season and lead the all-time series, 8-3-2.
