EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker)—The New Jersey Devils attempt to run their unbeaten streak to seven games as they host the Carolina Hurricanes in the finale of a home-and-home series on Saturday night.
New Jersey is 5-0-1 over its last six games and is also 8-2-1 in its last 11 contests. The Devils have outscored foes, 21-9 during the run and have topped three goals four times after failing to score more than two in seven straight games.
Joe Nieuwendyk highlighted New Jersey’s 2-1 win in the first half of the home-and-home series with his 500th goal. He became the 32nd player to reach 500.
Devils center Patrik Elias, who has scored in three straight games, was scratched Friday due to back spasms and is listed as day-to-day.
Carolina fell to 1-8-1-1 over its last 11 contest and extended its winless streak to six games with Friday’s loss.
The Hurricanes took 21 shots in the second period, but were unable to get anything past Brodeur, who posted his league-leading 24th victory.
New Jersey is winless in its last three regular-season home encounters (0-2-1) with Carolina.
