It's hard to believe some may still be questioning the legitimacy of the Florida Panthers. Another challenge awaits the high-flying Panthers, who bring a five-game win streak into Saturday night's matchup with red-hot Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins. After a 25-point improvement from 2013-14, Florida (31-15-5) was expected to at least compete for a playoff spot this season as its young talent continued to mature.
The surging Tampa Bay Lightning are piling up goals and victories. Ondrej Palat and Anton Stralman both scored twice, Tyler Johnson had a goal and two assists and the Lightning beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-3 on Friday night for their eighth consecutive home win. Tampa Bay, 10-1 overall since Jan. 8, also got a goal from Alex Killorn.
The Detroit Red Wings' most recent win came against the New York Islanders in their final game before the All-Star break. Detroit has dropped five in a row at Joe Louis Arena and looks to avoid its longest skid there in two seasons in Saturday's rematch with the Islanders. Justin Abdelkader and Danny DeKeyser scored in a 1:11 span of the second period to lead the Red Wings to a 4-2 victory over New York on Jan. 25.
