  • 3 Takeaways: Islanders End Regular Season with 5-4 Win Over Penguins

The New York Islanders ended the regular season on a high note, beating the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-4 on Wednesday night at UBS Arena. Brock Nelson (1G, 1A), Simon Holmstrom (GWG, 1A) and Samuel Bolduc (1G, 1A) each had two-point games, while Casey Cizikas and Kyle Palmieri rounded out the scoring for the Islanders.

  • Penguins Finish Season Strong, But Fall Short of Playoffs

On the morning of March 24, Pittsburgh sat at 24th in the NHL standings and 13th in the Eastern Conference, nine points out of the final Eastern Conference playoff spot and with just a 1.7% percent chance of making the postseason. The Penguins then dragged themselves back into the fight, picking up points in 11 of their last 12 games to get themselves back in contention. While they got eliminated the night before playing Game 82, that stretch said a lot about them “as people, first and foremost, but also as hockey players,” Penguins Head Coach Mike Sullivan said. Bryan Rust said guys just came together and buckled down after the dust settled from the March 8 deadline that saw the Penguins be sellers for the first time in recent memory, sending Jake Guentzel to Carolina.

  • Game Preview: Penguins at Islanders (04.17.24)

The Penguins are 6-3-3 in their last 12 games against the Islanders. Tristan Jarry sits one win shy of his fifth-consecutive 20-win season. Jarry's four 20-win campaigns are tied for third in franchise history behind MarcAndre Fleury (9) and Tom Barrasso (6). Jarry is 11-3-1 with a 2.28 goals-against average, a .923 save percentage and three shutouts in 15 career games against New York.
