While Sidney Crosby has repeatedly said he would prefer to retire as a part of the Pittsburgh Penguins, the only team for which he has played in his NHL career, Crosby and the organization have reportedly not begun formal negotiations for an extension on his Crosby's 12-year contract, which will expire at the conclusion of next season. The Athletic's Rob Rossi reported today that while Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas and Crosby's agent Pat Brisson have not formally negotiated any extension, there is confidence on both sides that something will be worked out around the beginning of the new league year on July 1.
Jake Guentzel, who helped win the Stanley Cup in Pittsburgh with Sidney Crosby, now is playing alongside Canes center Sebastian Aho, pursuing another Cup.
The New York Islanders ended the regular season on a high note, beating the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-4 on Wednesday night at UBS Arena. Brock Nelson (1G, 1A), Simon Holmstrom (GWG, 1A) and Samuel Bolduc (1G, 1A) each had two-point games, while Casey Cizikas and Kyle Palmieri rounded out the scoring for the Islanders.
