Jul 6 Zherdev has filed for arbitration, NY Newsday reports.

Recommendation: The Rangers and Zherdev will have three-to-four weeks before the arbitration meeting, which gives them time to work out a contract. If they are unable to agree to terms, an arbitrator will set Zherdev's salary and the Rangers will have 48 to agree to it or allow Zherdev to become an unrestricted free agent. Given how ineffective Zherdev was after coach John Tortorella took over, it wouldn't be surprising to see Zherdev join the free agent pool later this summer.

Jun 29 RW Nikolai Zherdev was given a qualifying offer by the Rangers, reportedly for around $3.25 million, keeping him a restricted free agent. The 24-year-old Russian tied for the team lead in scoring in the regular season with 58 points, but was held scoreless in seven games during a first-round playoff loss to Washington. "Whether he's going to accept or negotiate, it's tough to get a straight answer out of his agent," GM Glen Sather said of Zherdev, who reportedly might opt to play next season in Russia. "He's still a young guy who I thought played very well at the beginning of the year and tailed off at the end. ... He's got to become more consistent." Yahoo! Sports
