D Rob Blake, now 39, still has a cannon for a shot and that's the main reason why the Sharks want to veteran back again. He's still a big weapon on the power play even if the team has to watch his overall minutes and he still tends to take more hooking and holding penalties than you'd like to see. |

The Sharks have signed Blake to a one-year, $3.5 million contract, the San Jose Mercury News reports. Recommendation: Blake is 39 years old, but last season, he manned the blue line like an ageless wonder. At least for another year, the Sharks will enjoy the presence of a smart and experienced veteran, especially on the man advantage. While some fans might opine that $3.5 million is too steep, the Sharks can count on a healthy Blake to log around 70 games with anywhere between 40-50 points in a season. |
