The Boston Bruins got off to the playoff start they were hoping for on Thursday, April 12 when they defeated the Washington Capitals 1-0 1:18 into overtime on a Chris Kelly goal. Goaltender Tim Thomas recorded his sixth career playoff shutout in his 17 save effort for the Bruins.

Game 2 will take place on Saturday, April 14 before the series moves to Washington for Games 3 and 4 on Monday and Thursday.

For Boston it was important to come out and get that first win on their home ice. Despite their struggles late in the season they have come together when it matters most and will continue to fight to claim a consecutive Stanley Cup Championship.
