San Jose Sharks Face All-or-nothing Situation Against Dallas Stars: Fan Preview
Well, ladies and gentlemen, here we are. The final stretch of the NHL regular season and there are just three games to go. The Sharks will face the Dallas Stars on April 3 and then go on to face the Los Angeles Kings - who are in first place in the Pacific Division - once on the road and once at home on April 5 and 7. This week is the most important week of the season and the Sharks are essentially in an all-or-nothing mode at this point.
A win against the Stars will be crucial to the Sharks staying in the eighth spot and putting some more space between themselves and the Stars. The Stars currently sit just one point behind the Sharks and a Stars' win in regulation would allow them to leap over the Sharks and leave San Jose out of the playoff picture. There are several scenarios available and while I don't wish to examine them all, the Sharks can still finish in first place in the Pacific Division.
The Sharks are three points behind the Kings and the only two games left on the year for the Kings are against the Sharks. If the Sharks win out the rest of their games in regulation and the Phoenix Coyotes lose one of their last three games in regulation then the Sharks will be the Pacific Division champions. Sounds simple? Well, it's far from simple.
Honestly, the Sharks shouldn't worry about what anyone else is doing but them. If the Sharks win out, they are in the playoffs, period. If they lose just one game, their season is in jeopardy. So the best way for the Sharks to face these last three games is to leave it all out on the ice each night. They are lucky to have a day off in between each of their last three games. I would expect them to take that time to recover and stay sharp.
As for their matchup with the Stars, it's going to take a similar effort to the one put forth by the Sharks on March 31 when they defeated the Stars 3-0. The game was very physical and took a focused effort for the Sharks to come away with the victory. The Sharks will now play the Stars in Dallas and are 4-1 on the season against the Stars. Their one loss, however, was when the two teams met in Dallas on March 8.
The Sharks won't let being on the road deter them from staying in the playoff picture. They will use an effective fore-check and strong special teams play to come away with the win in Dallas.
Prediction: Sharks 3 - Stars 1
