Sabres select C Ennis with 26th pick

OTTAWA (TICKER) —The Buffalo Sabres on Friday selected center Tyler Ennis of the Western Hockey League’s Medicine Hat Tigers with the 26th overall pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

It was the Sabres’ second pick of the first round.

The team acquired the 12th overall pick in the draft from the Los Angeles Kings and used it to select defenseman Tyler Myers of the Western Hockey League’s Kelowna Rockets.

Buffalo sent the 13th overall selection and a third-rounder in the 2009 draft to Los Angeles for that pick.

Ennis, 18, has excelled despite his smallish frame.

The speedy 5-9, 146-pounder was named to the 2008 Eastern Conference First All-Star Team after finishing second in the WHL with 43 goals and fourth overall with 91 points. He also led the Tigers with 15 power-play tallies.

Ennis, who hails from Edmonton, also played for Canada’s gold medal-winning team at the 2006 Under-18 World Championship.
