Stars Team Report
INSIDE SHOTS
Jere Lehtinen(notes) stood in the Stars’ locker room after a recent morning skate. The question wasn’t so much on the record as just part of casual conversation: How are you feeling?
But for Lehtinen, that question is as loaded as they come, because these last few seasons, Lehtinen has had more not-so-good feeling days than he would care to remember. Groin issues have been the main culprit for Lehtinen, who played in just his 11th game this season on Saturday night. All the veteran wants to do is stay healthy for a while and contribute to this Stars team on a regular basis.
On Saturday, Lehtinen had one of his better games in some time. And that ought to go far in making him feel better.
Lehtinen scored his first goal of the season on Saturday, a power-play goal that helped the Stars to a 4-3 overtime victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Now just one point away from 500 for his career, Lehtinen played more than 16 minutes, his highest ice time in several weeks. It was probably a relief for Lehtinen, who is never one to get back out on the ice until he feels 100 percent. But once he’s there, he’s usually dependable.
No, Lehtinen isn’t going to have the seasons he used to, scoring-wise. Nevertheless, when healthy, he’s still one of the steadiest players out there, especially on the defensive side. The Stars will take a steady Lehtinen any day. Lehtinen will take a steady good bill of health.
Stars 4, Lightning 3 (OT): Tom Wandell(notes) is still pretty new to the NHL, but he’s playing as if it’s old hat. The 22-year-old scored the game-winner, his third this season, as the Stars overcame Tampa Bay in overtime.
NOTES, QUOTES
• The Stars are starting to reverse their bad trend on home ice. They have now garnered points in eight of their last nine games (5-1-3) at American Airlines Center.
• The power play continues to sizzle for the Stars, who tallied three of their four goals Saturday with the advantage. The Stars have gotten at least one power-play goal in each of their last five games, and have 12 in their last eight games.
Quote To Note: “It wasn’t the best shot, but it went in.”—Tom Wandell’s description of his game-winning goal Saturday.
ROSTER REPORT

Defensemen: Stephane Robidas(notes), Trevor Daley(notes), Nicklas Grossman(notes), Karlis Skrastins(notes), Matt Niskanen(notes), Mark Fistric(notes).
First Line: James Neal(notes), Brad Richards(notes), Loui Eriksson(notes).

Third Line: Steve Ott(notes), Tom Wandell, Jere Lehtinen.
Fourth Line: Toby Petersen(notes), Mike Modano(notes), Fabian Brunnstrom(notes).
Player Notes:
• C Tom Wandell has four goals this season, and three were game-winners. Wandell has been steady on the points lately, collecting five (2-3-5) in four of his last five games.
• LW Brenden Morrow looks as if he’s getting back to his old self on offense. Morrow has a goal in three consecutive games and points in four straight contests (3-1-4).
• D Stephane Robidas continues his torrid pace, scoring his seventh goal on Saturday. Robidas is just two goals away from his career-high of nine set in the 2007-08 season. His goal was also his fifth power-play goal this season, which leads NHL defensemen.
• RW Fabian Brunnstrom was recalled from the Texas Stars (rehab assignment for a shoulder injury) on Saturday and played against the Lightning. He logged 10:42 of ice time, finishing a minus-1.
• C Brian Sutherby(notes) (groin) was activated off the injured reserve list on Saturday. He was a healthy scratch against Tampa Bay.

Looked to me like a couple of shots hit the cross bar. I don't know that it's time to give up on them in the shootout just yet.
And Turco obviously had his confidence shaken last year and confidence is a lot of stopping the puck in a 1 on 1 situation. To me, he's improved every game and when he starts stringing some wins together, I think he'll stop the puck in OT again.

That was one thing I wasnt worried about this year, until now. Im liking Neal and Been in the shoot out, if the team could get there. If Auld can be consistent then Marty can relax a little and keep his fundamentals in tune, they could make a good tandem. Hopefully the kids stay healthy and acclimate quickly, Benn looks comfy and Ott is healthy, we needed him back desperately!

And then you get people yelling at other people cuz they didn't follow the offseason and don't even know that sydor and zubov are gone. They don't realize the comments were made months ago when these things probably hadn't happened yet. Can't wait for someone to flame me for my comments a few months down the road.
What ever happened to the stars being good at the shootout? I suggest they practice that. and PK too. brutal. If either one was half decent we would be 4-0-0.

When isn't this a number 1 priority for a NHL net minder? Brilliant.
Go Stars!

Turco better start hot or he ought to go. He may think he's better than he is. The Stars have let go of a lot of "back-ups" that are now starting for their teams.
give the new coach a chance and let's see what he does. With the injured troops coming back and some of the youngsters getting more ice time, the Stars could be poised for a good season and hopefully a post-season run.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!!

While we as fans were pleased that Newy was brought into the Stars fold it still lefts sour note that Hully and Les were reassigned.
In my opinion the both of them did a good job with the exception of the Avery situation. Still the Stars were embarassed and that struck a chord with Tom Hicks.
Now the Stars will enter the 2009-10 season in unchartered territory by having a new coach, which no one has played for in the past.
Marc Crawford is the polar opposite of Dave Tippett but he still should be
given a chance. If he gets the Stars to the playoffs then he will be around
for awhile. If not then the fans will be looking for blood.
As for the Modano bashers, let him play out his final year.
He could have signed elsewhere a few years back, but he chose not to. Mike could of taken early retirement and given the Stars a salary cap hit, but he did not.
In a day where it is "show me the money" Mo has been dedicated
his professional life to Club that he started with. That in itself is commedable because so
few pro athletes do that these days.

I am glad they got rid of Tippett. He's a good coach but only got to the Conference Finals ONCE in 5 years. It's the head coaches job to have them motivated for the game. 3/4 of the time the Stars never showed up to play. Crawford has won a Cup and he's a hardass and that's what the Stars need.

The key to next season starts and and quite possibly ends with Brendan Morrow.
