Blue Jackets Team Report

INSIDE SHOTS

So far, Blue Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock is having trouble getting his message through to his players.

The Blue Jackets have allowed six or more goals in seven games this season, the most in the NHL. On Thursday, they lost 6-3 to Toronto in Nationwide Arena.

The 102 goals allowed by the Blue Jackets are tops in the NHL.

“We don’t do a good job managing the puck at times,” Hitchcock said. “It’s like we have to bump our head against the wall before we do it.”

Last season under Hitchcock—regarded as one of the NHL’s most defensively insistent coaches—the Blue Jackets were tied for ninth in the NHL, allowing 2.72 goals per game.

This season, they’re allowing 3.64.

Maple Leafs 6, Blue Jackets 3:   Rather than avoid a track meet with the Maple Leafs, the Blue Jackets fed right into it.

The Leafs took a 2-0 lead early on two ugly turnovers, then pushed the lead to 6-1 early in the third period.

The Blue Jackets got goals from Kristian Huselius(notes), Jason Chimera(notes) and Jan Hejda(notes). Goaltender Steve Mason(notes) was pulled at 10:55 of the second period after allowing four goals on 14 shots.

NOTES, QUOTES

• The Blue Jackets dropped to 2-5-1 all-time versus Toronto. They hadn’t hosted the Maple Leafs since Oct. 20, 2006.

• After going 13-3-2 versus the Eastern Conference last season, the Blue Jackets are 3-4-1 so far this season.

Quote To Note:   “We have to get this fixed before it’s too late.”—Blue Jackets defenseman Fedor Tyutin(notes), after a 6-3 loss to Toronto.

I would like to know how Dorsett is doing! That was a seriously scary hit, and watching him drag his head on the ice made me wonder if he didn't go brain dead right there on the spot. I mean, geez!

How can you not find time for arguably your most talented forward? Hitchcock is too old school, put Filatov on any other team he's a leading Calder Trophy candidate! Who is Hitch starting over this guy?

They gotta get filatov some playing time. You can't have a kid as talented as filatov play less then 5 minutes on the FOURTH LINE or even be a healthy scratch. Either have him play in the minors or get him some ice time on the top lines. Cause he will just collect dust and will end up being unhappy and will then demanding to be traded. Oh and columbus if you want a young center, call the islanders and see if they will give you bailey for filatov straight up.

    Cup comments are wishful.

Lets start with a playoff win, or two. And looking competitive in post season IF CBJ's repeat into post season play.

I want to see more power play punch.

I think the blue jackets are not that far off from winning a stanley cup. They got nash and some of the best young up and coming players in the game. Like post #2 scottd said is all they need is a offensive d-man and a good backup goalie. Columbus, you guys got a great young team to watch for many years as long as the front office can keep all these guys together. And I think nash signed an extension over the summer. The jackets gave him a 8 year extension I believe.

It really does suck to see Williams go. He was a great addition to the team!

Ehrhoff would be a nice addition to our blue-line. It sucks to see Williams go. He was fun to have in Columbus. I'd rather see Raffi leave. Also, while Manny's skills may be easily replaced, I hate seeing him go, because he's been such a positive face for the team, and always always hustled on the ice.

I love that Nash is a great player but he made some rather rash comments on an inverview on www.bluejacketsxtra.com. I can understand how some players see the game as a business, but the statement that "If they don't sign me, someone else will," shows no loyalty to the team you've been playing on for years and years.

I agree with (scottyd614), we need to get Nash under contract ASAP!!! Nash has commented that he would like to stay in Columbus. Let's just hope Mason stays healthy. CARY THE FLAG!

First focus, lets get Rick signed to that long term contract. Next if Manny is not willing to resign let him go spend a little money and go out get a center iceman as well as defensemen. PLEASE!

    All I want is:

    1. Keep nash
    2. Get a good Offensive Defenseman
    3. Decent backup goalie
