Senators re-sign LW Hamel

OTTAWA (Ticker) - The Ottawa Senators retained Denis Hamel on Tuesday, re-signing the left wing to a two-year contract.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

A sixth-round pick of St. Louis in 1995, Hamel was acquired by Ottawa from Washington in October 2003. He appeared in five games with the Senators in 2003-04 but failed to record a point.

The 28-year-old Hamel spent the 2004-05 season with Binghamton of the American Hockey League, finishing second on the team in scoring with a team-record 39 goals and 39 assists in 80 games. He led Binghamton in goals (29), assists (38) and points (67) and was named to the AHL First All-Star Team in 2003-04.

In 135 career games with Buffalo and Ottawa, Hamel has 13 goals and nine assists.
