Sabres acquire D Lydman from Flames

BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) - The Buffalo Sabres added some depth on defense Thursday, acquiring Toni Lydman from the Calgary Flames for a third-round pick in 2006.

A veteran of 289 career games with the Flames, the 27-year-old Lydman collected four goals, 16 assists and 30 penalty minutes in 2003-04, when the team came within one game of winning its first Stanley Cup since 1989. After recording a minus-22 rating his first three seasons with Calgary, he was plus-six in 2003-04.

The 6-1, 202-pound Lydman recorded 19 goals and 74 assists in his career with the Flames, including career highs of 22 assists and 28 points in 79 games in 2001-02. He also represented his native Finland in the 2004 World Cup, supplying three assists in six games.
