Hurricanes activate LW Cole from IR

RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA (TICKER)—The Carolina Hurricanes are in danger of missing the playoffs. They hope one of their top snipers can shoot them back into contention.

The Hurricanes bolstered their offense Thursday, activating left wing Erik Cole from injured reserve.

Carolina’s fifth-leading scorer, Cole tore a muscle near his hip during a pregame skate last month and has missed the team’s last seven games.

Cole, 28, has 25 goals and 26 assists in 57 games this season for the reigning Stanley Cup champion Hurricanes (33-28-7), who are tied with Toronto (32-26-9) for the eighth and final postseason spot in the Eastern Conference.

Carolina, which has dropped three of its last four games, opens a two-game road trip Friday in Washington.
