Sabres call up Enroth for Isles meeting

The Buffalo Sabres have recalled goalie prospect Jhonas Enroth(notes) from the American Hockey League as they prepare to meet a New York Islanders squad that bounced them 5-0 the past weekend.

The 21-year-old Swede being brought up from the Portland Pirates as Patrick Lalime(notes) is battling a groin injury.

Enroth will likely back up, Ryan Miller(notes) who had a rare off night against the Islanders on Saturday. Miller gave up three goals on 16 shots before giving way to Lalime.

Miller entered with an 8-0-1 record and a 1.64 goals-against average before being pulled by coach Lindy Ruff after the Islanders built a 3-0 lead in the second period.

“It’d be nice to win 82 games, but we know that’s not going to happen,” centre Derek Roy(notes) said. “There’s going to be some bumps in the road, and we got to go right off the bat.”

Roy has struggled early. The sixth-year player has yet to score this season after averaging nearly 25 goals in the past four seasons.

New York’s two goalies, meanwhile, have spent their most recent starts frustrating former teams.

Martin Biron(notes) made 38 saves in the shutout of the Sabres while Dwayne Roloson(notes) stopped 22 shots as the Islanders defeated Edmonton 3-1 on Monday.

As a result, last season’s last-place team in the NHL can win its fifth-straight game. The Islanders have outscored opponents 15-5 during the winning streak.

“We’ve had our chances, and scoring hasn’t come easy for us,” coach Scott Gordon said after that win. “I’m encouraged that every night, it’s been a different line that’s made the difference.”

Rookie John Tavares(notes) scored his fifth goal against the Oilers, with more unlikely candidates Brendan Witt(notes), Frans Nielsen(notes) and Richard Park(notes) all scoring their first of the season within the last three games.

Jeff Tambellini(notes) was the nemesis of the Sabres, netting his first career hat trick.

New York brings a 5-4-5 record into the game at Buffalo’s HSBC Arena, with the Sabres leading the Northeast Division with an 8-2-1 mark.
