Blues activate LW Tkachuk from IR

DETROIT (Ticker) - The St. Louis Blues received a boost to their woeful offense on Wednesday when left wing Keith Tkachuk was activated from injured reserve.

Tkachuk, one of the Blues’ few remaining veterans, suffered a fractured right hand against the Chicago Blackhawks on December 16. He was placed on IR a day later and has missed 22 games.

A four-time All-Star, Tkachuk should bolster a St. Louis squad which entered Wednesday’s contest at Detroit with just 130 goals scored, the second-worst mark in the NHL.

The 14-year veteran will also provide leadership to a roster filled with young, inexperienced players after leading scorers Doug Weight and Mike Sillinger were traded earlier this week.

Tkachuk, 33, has eight goals and seven assists in just 10 contests this season. He was sidelined for 18 games earlier in the campaign after suffering three non-displaced cracked ribs in an October 15 contest against Nashville.
