Penguins president recovering after heart attack

  • Print

PITTSBURGH (AP)—Pittsburgh Penguins president David Morehouse is recovering from a heart attack in San Jose, Calif., where the team played its last game.

Penguins’ vice president of communications Tom McMillan says Morehouse became ill as the team was preparing to fly out of San Jose on Sunday, the morning after a 5-0 loss to the Sharks.

McMillan says Morehouse was still in an undisclosed hospital in San Jose on Monday and should return to Pittsburgh in a couple of days. McMillan says Morehouse had a “minor procedure” after the heart attack, and is expected to make a full recovery.

The Penguins hired the 48-year-old Morehouse in 2004 to help craft a financing deal for the $325 million Consol Energy Center set to open next fall. He was promoted to president two years ago.

A comedian would say this was a result of hearin gthat Ovie was gonna be back sooner than a month, but I won't go there. Seriously though, get well soon Mr. Morehouse and we'll see you down here in DC next time the Pens visit.

Let's all pray that Mr. Morehouse make a speedy and uncomplicated recovery. Smart move on the trainers part to take him off the plane. Now let's hope that the Pens can get on the right track again., Without Kennedy, Letang, Gonchar, Talbot and Geno, WOW.... they need to pick up their A game. I agree that the power play sucks and Mike Yeo should re-evaluate this problem. They are going to have bad games and loose some, BUT they need to play at least 55% better than they have been!!!! Again, speedy recovery to Morehouse and GO PENS

Thoughts and prayers go out to David Morehouse indeed. It's really sad for the state of humanity, but you guys are right, we probably shouldn't have comments on these types of stories because there are so many a$$es out there.

pensburgh256 is an obvious band wagoner, that knows nothing about hockey. The reason Crosby's line is not producing is the lack of a 2nd scoring line. Malkin hurry back! The PP sucks because we struggle to get the puck into the offensive zone and set things up, Goligoski is doing his best but he's not Gonchar. I attended the games in ANH and LA and the Pens were lucky to steal a win in ANH. Kings ganged up on Crosby's line all night. One of the Kings even slashed his stick in half and for the 1st time in my life I didn't see a penalty called. I guess it's not automatic? Anyway, tThey were really flat against the Kings, they were 10 minutes from a 2-1 win, but I was praying they'd only let a goal in and they'd hang on for OT, but it was not to be. Hurry back Gonchar! Go Pens!

I agree with you guys. This type story shouldn't have comments. Some dirtbag out there will be a jerk I'm sure. As a Flyers fan it's no secret how we feel about the Pens as a team but wishing Morehouse a full and speedy recovery are the only type of comments that should be attached to this story. I hope he recovers soon.

I agree with you La La Land. There are a few articles across the sports world (former MLB pitcher's mother kidnapped) that should be closed to comments. I'm a goofball by nature, not to mention a Flyers & Lightning fan, but realize it would be in extremely poor taste to post anything BUT a prayer offer to the Pens prez at this time. Not everyone is capable of taking the high road. Here's hoping that #2 will be the only comment to cross into the gray area of appropriateness.

I've been having heart attacks too watching the Penguins powerplay and normal play in general doing horrible the past couple games. They need to get Mike Yeo off the powerplay coaching duties. Additionally, the Penguins need to pick up wingers that are actually good to help Crosby.
