Flyers’ F Gagne expected to miss 6-8 weeks
PHILADELPHIA (AP)—Flyers winger Simon Gagne(notes) is expected to miss the next six to eight weeks after having abdominal and hip surgery.
Gagne, who missed the past two games, is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday.
“It’s hard to take, but it’s still early in the season,” Gagne said. “I’ll miss close to two months and have time to get back in shape and feel 100 percent when I’m skating. That’s something I wasn’t able to do right now.”
The 29-year-old Gagne, who has one goal and four assists, has two small hernias in his right groin, the same area that required hernia surgery before the 2007-08 season. He also has had multiple hip operations due to problems linked to the groin.
“He’s had repairs in both of those areas before, so the doctor wants to go through those same incisions—they’re just small incisions—and reinforce and strengthen the area,” Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. “He will look at the small hernias that we saw in the ultrasound and see if they really are there.”
The Flyers wanted Gagne to have surgery earlier, but Gagne sought a second opinion. The team issued a statement Saturday saying it was still reviewing MRI, ultrasound and bone scan results, and hadn’t made a decision.
The delay “was more to just make sure Simon was feeling comfortable with what was going on,” Holmgren said. “I think deep down, he just wanted to know which is right. It does seem frustrating at times, but at the end of the day you’ve got to trust the player. Simon’s been through a lot and we just wanted to make sure we get it right.”
Added Gagne: “We went to the bottom (of it) to make sure we were making the right decision for myself, the team and the future, to go and do the surgery. We’re going to do the surgery and get on a program to make sure those types of injuries don’t happen to me anymore.”
Danny Briere(notes) also has missed two games for the Flyers after tweaking a groin injury and Ryan Parent(notes) has missed three games with a groin strain before returning for two periods on Saturday.
He re-injured the groin and could miss another week.

How quickly they forget that they abandoned their penguins and were about to move to Kansas city, if i recall the location correctly, until Mario stepped up and saved the team. take a lesson from maple leafs fans, they have supported their team no matter how badly they have failed (and have done so since the last season there were 6 teams)
Unless you have stuck with your city's teams through good runs AND bad you have no right to talk smack about any other team. When the penguins start to fall back into another 6 year failure streak, i wonder how many people will stick by them and how many will go the "what is hockey, i have never heard of this" route.
This post is not toward the 7k people who still showed up at the penguins games when they were failing. This is at the bandwagon hoppers who just learned that Pittsburgh has a football and a hockey team.
no matter what you say about philly and its teams and fans, you KNOW the fans are infinity better than most of the fans from Pittsburgh

i mean really do any of you "fans" wear any others jerseys besides #87 #71? you've had some of the best players, and all you ever see is crosby, malkin jerseys. no 66, 68, 77, 10 or even a 20. that shows a lil bandwagonism right there. go look at any other teams' fans and you will see 30+ yr old jerseys of players past, even some not so great players jerseys, fans wear for whatever reason. not so mush in Shïttsburgh, they only know princess, malkin and fluery.
how but dose Pirates?

The WORST fans in all sport. They talk like they know, but they fail to see what even players say about Philly.
They all hate us til they come to Philly then they get it. NOBODY supports it's teams like Philly and Pitt barely kept their team, now they act like they're real fans.
Yeah, OK... LOL
Keep in mind both trips to the cup they had to beat WHO? Oh yeah we suck, so that means Pitt is only a littl better than "suck". Hmmmm possibly.
