Second person fired for giving Flames vaccines

  • Print

CALGARY, Alberta (AP)—Alberta’s health board says a second person has been fired for helping set up a private clinic for Calgary Flames players and their families to get the H1N1 flu vaccine.

Alberta Health Services launched an investigation earlier this week into how the hockey players got shots while thousands of Albertans waited in line. The investigation found the health agency was approached by a member of the team’s medical staff to see if a clinic could be made available. The request was approved by a more senior staff member, who was fired earlier this week.

There was no written record of the clinic being approved and its creation contradicts existing protocols, the board found.

Cameron why in the world would American health care scare you. The comment makes absolutely no sense. Could you please explain what about that scares you. That has to be the most ridiculous phobia ever. Peggy that was a retarded post what does Obama have to do with this at all. Obama sucks we all know that's why women shouldn't be allowed to talk sports, even if this barely has anything to do with sports, now shut up and go make me a sandwich. Julie why don't you ask a doctor instead of random people on an NHL website. You must be from canada if you're this damn stupid.

Coondog - "This article was about two people getting fired for being capitalist in a socialist society, wake up America before Pelosi digs her claws into all of the U.S."

Where you get this idea from this story is beyond me. No where in the article does it mention these two people as being "capitalists". In fact, it's quite possible they didn't make a cent off of their actions. I guess your lack of reading comprehension skills is just another indictment of the US education system.

This incident took place in Canada, so what do President Obama and Nancy Pelosi have to do with it? @Batts: Given your spelling, punctuation and word usage skills, you are probably one of the prime candidates to be culled from "the heard" when the time comes. I know a society without people like you would be a better one in which to live.

Hey, 'bonbogstie47'... you say your mother is 71 and waited outside for hours in subzero temps to get a flu shot? That's crazy. Maybe you should have waited in line for her and called her on the cel phone when it was time to get her shot?!! Use your head, dude.

Hundreds of thousands of people who are not in the critical bracket (senior citizens, chronic conditions, the very young, etc.) have had the shot. Local newspapers interviewed healthy, middle-aged adults coming out of the H1N1 immunization line-ups, and those people invariably said, "Yes, I just got the shot. Wouldn't you?" And now, those puritanical folks in some amount of bureaucratic power who are worried that "somewhere, someone has got the H1N1 shot" before they themselves got it "fairly and squarely" are ready, complete with crucifixion poles, to go out and start a witch hunt. Ahh, the glory of humanity. That's funny stuff. In other news, and, somewhat removed from the hustle and bustle of sneaking into immunization lines, firings, and puritanical witch hunts,I had the H1N1 flu. It wasn't that bad. I mean, it was a flu, sure. I was out about a week. I didn't pass it on to anybody that I know of, and, having recovered, feel perfectly fine. Much ado.

obama , his wife and kids all got the shots weeks ago- we have an epidemic here and no vaccine. he'd make a very poor captain of a ship.

strange #21 (can i call ya peggy?)--this is a story about a hockey team jumping in front of the line in regards to flu shots.

chances are if you called the health dept.-you might cop a flu shot.

    weird huh?

(In March 2004, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued new guidelines for how women who are trying to conceive, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and young children can limit their exposure to mercury in fish. They now advise eating no more than 6 ounces (about one serving) of canned albacore or "white" tuna. At the Department of Foods and Nutrition at Purdue University, we tend to be a bit more conservative and recommend eating no more than 4 ounces a week.) So go ahead and eat up, and get that shot, your autistic child can live off the Govt. the rest of their lives.

5000 deaths worldwide, 7 billion people in the world. You have a better chance of winning the lottery than you do of dying from swine flu. 17,000 people a year are killed by drunk drivers just in the US that should be front page news.

the amount of mercury received from the vaccine is equivalent to that contained in one half a can of tuna fish.

    To Julie,
You're better off not getting the vaccine if you're pregnant. Many of them have Thimerosal (mercury) , a known potent neurotoxin. If you don't believe me check out the data sheet. It says that
it contains a substance known to cause reproductive harm and many parents believe as do I that it has caused neurological problems in many kids.
If you do decide to get the shot, MAKE SURE it is Thimerosal free, it will be the best decision of your life.
You DO NOT want to expose your unborn child to that stuff.

Oh Cameron...please. Give it up. Your mother must be related to the Calgary Flames then, because Canadian health care = waiting in long lines. Just remember how slowly our Government works to do anything right.

I am glad you have faith. I sure as hell don't

According to Yahoo sports "Smid was the one Oiler who was diagnosed with the H1N1 virus last week but never missed any games. He's not expected to miss the game on Thursday either." Professional athletes are not in the high risk category. My mother on the other hand is 71 years old and had to stand in line outside in sub 0 temperatures and snow for 4 hours to recieve her shot.

I had H1N1 last year. Guess what? Big F'n deal. It's the flu. Did you know on average close to 40,000 people die of the flu every year? Take care of yourself just like with the 'regular' flu and you're fine.
