Blackhawks activate LW Eager from IR

  • Print

CHICAGO (AP)—Left wing Ben Eager(notes) was activated from injured reserve Monday by the Chicago Blackhawks.

Eager, 13th in the NHL with 161 penalty minutes last season, played in the Blackhawks’ first two games this season before missing the last 13 with a concussion.

Center Jonathan Toews(notes) also was back on the ice for Monday’s game against Los Angeles after missing the previous six contests with a concussion. Chicago’s captain and best face-off man, Toews had a goal and four assists this season. He scored a team-high 34 goals in 2008-09.

There is nothing in comparison to the hit on Havlat last year, besides a dirty swing of the stick. Dirtiest hit you will ever see and Kronwall should still be on suspension because of it. Please know something about hockey before commenting on here.

As for all this crap about them getting schooled, what are you guys just a bunch of morons or what? This team outplayed the opponents in every game this year except the last one. If you guys want someone to blame just pile on our 5 million dollar backup goalie, he is flat out terrible.

Hawks are giving up the fewest shots in the league and have been playing good sound team defense this year in all but one game. You shouldn't have number like Huet has right now when you face and average of only 20 shots a game.

Look I'm a huge Hawks fan but saying we need some 4th line scrub enforcer is just plain ridiculous. I like Toews and the grit he brings in the corners every night but that hit by Mitchell was clean. Gotta keep your head up in the middle of the ice or anywhere for that matter. It was sort of a fluke because I don't think Toews ever saw him coming out of the penalty box.

And that kronwall hit last year was clean too, I get tired of fans being so one-sided when it comes to plays like this. these guys know it's a very physical game and they are all well aware of what can happen if you get blasted by a clean shoulder to the chest type hit.

knocking on Chicago is funny. Detroit smells like tha arm pit capitol of the world,...not to mention the
place is full of @#$% everywhere that think the world owes them something not to mention there all a bunch of dead beats that leave fatherless children all over the place while there lard ass mothers sit at home with 8 kids and no job while they draw welfare checks that come out of my pocket.
the only thing Detroit was good for was the muscle car and Jerome Bettis.

    To WINGS SUCK

If you were such a "Hawks" fan you would know we have enforcers. Problem is they are both injured!

Do you know the players I'm speaking of...?

    Adam Burish and Ben Eagar

Unfortunately they are out (Burish till March!) so currently we have no enforcers. It would be nice if big guys like Campbell, Byfuglien, Seabrook and Kopecky stepped up but they won’t. The Blackhawks will have to find other avenues to win games and keep bullies off our first and second line players.

THIS POINTS OUT A SECOND GLARING WEAKNESS OF THE HAWKS THIS YEAR...THEY ARE BUILT LIKE THE WINGS OVER THE LAST 10 YEARS...NO TOUGH GUYS WHATSOEVER...NOBODY TO DROP THE GLOVES. IF THEY HAD AN ENFORCER, MITCHELL WOULD CERTAINLY HAVE GIVEN MORE THOUGHT TO CRUSHING TOEWS AS CERTAINLY A HAWK WOULD HAVE RUN SEDIN...THAT BEING SAID WHEN KRIS VERSTEEG IS THE GUY DOING THE DIRTY WORK WHAT WOULD THE CANUCKS POSIIBLY BE WORRIED ABOUT.

I am a diehard hawk fan but hate that we lack any physical players...people who think Dustin is a fighter have know knowledge of him...WE HAVE NO FIGHTERS...WE NEED ONE.

I know that if Tallon were still in control he would never have a team that could not protect two of the games best young talents. The bowmans can take their @#$%-style right back to Detroit!!!!

Hopefully this gets a fighter on the roster.

@ HBKid11 are you blind, watch that kronwall hit again... the boards were next to him, yet he wasnt checked into them. Havlat had his head burried in his feet... keep your head up you dont get hit like that... its pretty simple... by your logic how dirty were both stewarts and campbells hits on Umberger?

Hahaha i love it when blackbirds get hit by freight trains. just goes to show that the hawks don't teach their players to keep their heads up when they skate. This is what you get.

The hit on Toews was legal, and he should have had his head up, He will learn. The hit on Havlat last year by Kronwall was one of the dirtiest hits in hockey, and should have been a fine and suspnsion. You are dealing with the boards there, not open ice like last night. But what do you expect from a Detroit goon?

@27 Campbell is nowhere near "solid defensively." Put him in the category of defensive liability.

Mitchell's hit on Toews was the best hit on a Chicago player since Kronwall destroyed Havlat in the playoffs.

I'm a huge Hawks fan and I have to admit, the Kronwall hit was textbook hockey and should NOT have garnered a penalty at all. Our team is getting schooled this year, but we will be better and a force to reckon with for many years to come. Finishing in the top 4 teams and being the youngest team in the NHL says a lot about our promising future.

Jerald, Brian Leetch would be insulted. Campbell is NO where close to him offensively and Campbell is awful in his own end. Ask true Hawk fans. As far as going "Krownwall", just ask RJ Umburger about that....Ouch

Hey Hawks fans, the Rangers will be glad to take Brian Campbell off your hands. He reminds me of Brian Leetch -- great offensive skills and solid defense, even if he doesn't go for the big Kronwall-esque hits.

Poor Alan, Cowards? Who pushes who when the whistle blows hoping the refs step in to save them? What if the skate is on the other foot? Would you call it a cheap hit? After watching your second NHL game tonight, just maybe you'll come to understanding the game a little better. Havlet seeing stars/dazed was priceless....and I might add......legal and clean! Enjoy the golf season which starts tomorrow for you!
