Thanks to the Boston Celtics, that Lakers 2007-08 NBA champions DVD may not exactly be one for the Los Angeles sports fan's collection. But perhaps the round-ball finals were Boston's "kneel before Zod!" moment, as L.A. meekly clutches the Celts' hand and accepts Beantown not as its conqueror, but as its savior.
According to Rich Hammond of the LA Daily News, the Los Angeles Kings have spoken to "the ownership group of the Celtics, led by Wycliffe ‘Wyc' Grousbeck, about a ‘partnership.'" Anschutz Entertainment Group, owners of the Kings since 1995, would not relinquish control; but the plan would see executives "who have experience in the Celtics' front office [that would] likely be imported to help run the Kings."
The Kings could obviously use the managerial help, as the franchise recently said it must raise ticket prices because it's losing money faster than "The Love Guru." But the Kings fans over on LetsGoKings.com are a little concerned that the methodical rebuilding of the team with young, talented players like Anze Koptiar, Dustin Brown and Jack Johnson could become a win-it-now approach like the Celtics had this season.
Then again, the Celtics did something the Kings don't often do, which is actually, you know, "win." And the last time the franchise had a "win-at-all-costs" ownership, the Kings only ended up with Wayne Gretzky and seven consecutive playoff appearances. OK, and a guy who had defrauded a number of financial institutions of $236 million and ended up in prison. That too.

I could see it now.... Ray Allen passing to Paul Pierce for the one-timer. And on the other end KG stacking the pads to stop a rush.
But the Purple and Green are hurting my eyes.
