Puck Daddy - NHL

As we told you earlier this week, the Washington Capitals have a rather shameless fan who prints up tiny images and places them in the bottom of men's room urinals at Verizon Center during games against big rivals, like the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers.

He struck again in last night's win over the Philadelphia Flyers with his latest creation: "Peeiere," his ode to center and Capitals' rival Daniel Briere. It's no Sidney Crosby "I'm Thirsty," but it'll do.

Dan Steinberg had a note about this in his DC Sports Bog column about the Capitals/Flyers fan rivalry in the stands last night, in which he discovered a surprising amount of affection between warring factions. He also published this "So Easy, Even a Flyers Fan Can Do It" Geico parody poster carried by venerable Capitals fan Horn Guy ... which reaches previously unreachable heights of irony when you consider what other fan bases say about Ovechkin.

Finally -- and apologies for all the Caps/Flyers content today, other 28 teams -- On Frozen Blog wants to see the Southeast Division "dissolved" and the Capitals moved back with their natural rivals from the former Patrick Division. So, like, contraction then?

Check out the full photo stream of CapsDC, the brave fan who snapped the Peeiere shot.

Don't pee too hard, you might injure him. Or as the Kind in the Hall would say, you'll send him to the Godess of Compensation.

Ladies and gentlemen of the Puck Daddy, I'm just a caveman. I fell on some ice and later got thawed out by some of your scientists. Your world frightens and confuses me! Sometimes the honking horns of your tgoal siren make me want to get out of the arena and run off into the hills, or wherever.. Sometimes when I see the score on the jumbotron, I wonder: "Did little demons get inside and type it?" I don't know! My primitive mind can't grasp these concepts. But there is one thing I do know - when my client's image is peed upon in the bathroom at the arena in Washington then he is entitled to no less than two million in compensatory damages, and two million in punitive damages.
    Thank you.

Coincedence that the "top" bloggers except for Mirtle are all Washington-based?? Nope. You, JP, McErlain....all you care about is the Caps.

    @ Matt --
I'm not sure what you're getting at. I mean, I work out of DC, so there's bound to be more Caps content than, say, Phoenix.
But "all I care about is the Caps?" You think I wouldn't enjoy a day of 10 Devils posts, each one about a member of the 1988 Patrick Division championship team? Because that post on Jim Korn is itching to get written.

i'm so glad I didn't have to read Wysh's 1988 blogs telling all about how Chris Terreri was the best goalie ever to play in the NHL.
The cigars were better in 88 though right Wysh? I mean BEFORE Clinton made them "sexy".

Does the pee-picture lose a bit of its zing considering he chose a player on the IR who wasn't going to play in the game?

The Denver Broncos bounced the Caps from the playoffs? Damn they suck.
It's a good thing that Danny will never see these, he's not tall enough to use the big boy urinals.

I miss the old Patrick Division. Every game was intense, especially Flyers - Capitals games. That rivalry is definitely back and I'm glad of it, but let's keep it on the ice Mr. Boudreau. Keep the off-ice trash talk to yourself. That belongs in football and boxing, not hockey.
Wysh, have you no love for Alain Chevrier? He played the most games for y'all in 1987-88. Plus, he fought Ron Hextall at least once.
Looking at that Devils team was a total time warp. How could I have forgotten about Bruce Driver?

Bring back the Patrick Division! And the green and red Devils jerseys so I can laugh at them! But seriously, it seems that PIT/WSH is heating up (due to the young superstars rivalry), PIT/PHI (because everyone hates Philly), and NYR/WSH (because everyone hates us, too). NYI/WSH is nothing, unless you think about the Easter Epic, and NJ/WSH, well...not so much, but they would be entertaining games 6 times a year.

"See, I've always had a strange respect for Flyers fans," legendary Caps fan Goat told me. "They're always there, and they boo their own team because they expect more, and they demand more. Nobody wants to admit it, but everybody's got a bit of Philly fan in them. I just appreciate that they wear it on their sleeves."
Goat is right on the money. I don't mind so much that everyone bangs on Flyer fans, what I mind is that they do it and then pretend to be better than us. ie. the guy sitting next to me at last night's game who said he wanted to curb stomp an 8-year-old kid who was wearing a Flyer jersey, then defended that by saying "that's what they'd do in Philly." Stay classy, dude. Every fan base is obnoxious to every other fan base, and that's part of what makes sports so great. Just admit it to yourself -- if you were one of the one's chanting "Flyers suck" instead of "Let's Go Caps" last night, then you're just as much an [profane] as us Philly fans. Just be proud of it. :P

    @Steve B
The reason why they're so obsessed with this "rivarly" is because they don't have anything close to a rivalry in the Southeast. If hating the Pens and Flyers gets them amped up, then all the better for the game of hockey.

For those who may not perceive other influences to a "Rivalry" or how they are created, the Caps and Flyers were once in the same division, battling constantly with each other, much like the hated Rags, Pens, Isles and such... like the devils but they are jonny come lately anyway... (at a time before the Bett, man era)
Now with a playoff fight like last season, and a 7 game series with the kind of hitting and CAPS FANS THROWING BOTTLES AT FLYER PLAYERS ( butt we're the classless ones???)and the Caps being ousted from the dance... THAT IS HOW RIVALRIES IGNiTE...
as much as some would like to dismiss the Caps, I love it, a renewed apathy and loathing, a new hatred... how long has washington been nothing but pathetic? too long, now they are back in the mix with a good strong team, one of the top players and most exciting players in the league a fierce physical presence in Alex Semin... DOH, Brashear... its awesome, I welcome it with beers open and fists pumping... hey Washington...
    Welcome back to Relevance!!!
