Puck Daddy - NHL

Vince Vaughn hasn't looked this thrilled since the reviews for "Fred Claus" were published. A snippet of their imagined conversation:

"I gotta say that I really liked the way you handled that Avery thing, Mr. Commissioner. He's just like this little bunny, who's just kinda cowering in the corner. And, you know, you got these claws and you're staring at these claws and you're thinking to yourself, 'How am I supposed to kill this bunny, how am I supposed to kill this bunny?' What was he like, anyway? He looks pretty good. Is he real? Is he built for speed or comfort? What'd you do with him? Motorboat? You play the motorboat? I know you're smiling at how money I am, baby."

There were many famous faces (as well as "famous for hockey" faces) at the Winter Classic at Wrigley Field between the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings. We enjoyed Puck The Media's snarky gallery because Lepore cracked a good Billy Corgan joke.

But Brian Compton of NHL.com gets a major stick-tap for the interview of the day: Elusive and reclusive director John Hughes, sitting in Wrigley's upper deck near the left-field foul pole. From NHL.com, the first interview with Hughes since the wrap party for "Curly Sue":

"I grew up in the Detroit area, so I'm sort of happy right now," Hughes said at the end of the second period with the Red Wings up 4-3. "Gordie Howe was my hero growing up. We listened to games on the radio."

Hughes authored the smash-hit screenplay "Home Alone" and then went on to direct blockbusters such as "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," "Sixteen Candles" and "Pretty in Pink." After "Ferris Bueller" - "I used the number 9," said Hughes -- Howe sent the director an autographed jersey. "That was a big thrill," said Hughes, who nonetheless was a Blackhawks season ticket holder for years.

"We're going to re-up now," Hughes said. "It's amazing what Rocky Wirtz and his organization has done for the team. There is just so much affection for the Hawks that was pent up. I think that's why there was anger about the Hawks [dry stretch]. The team is beloved."

Can't wait to see which celebrities are drawn to the Winter Classic in its next destination. Hopefully more than will show up to see the Blackhawks and Florida Panthers in Prague. Unless you consider Roman Cechmanek and Jaroslav Modry celebrities.

Too bad that Vaughn didn't throw Bettman out of the window..
So Panthers have to play "home" game in a city where people actually know what this weird thing called hockey is? Poor guys... They'll be so lost

Hey everyone. I just spent about 20 hours fighting the most vicious cyber attack I have ever seen. Here's what it did:
    1) Disabled all virus protection
    2) blocked access to all virus fighting tools and web sites. It did this by DNS aliasing that you could not find or fix.
    3) attacked my BIOS making me crash on "any login". I have several backup logins to fight these things as backdoors. All were effected.
    4) blocked my wireless and LAN connections
    5) Spread loggers and Malware throughout my system
I almost gave up. What this meant was I couldnt get to McAfee, Adaware PCDoctor, Norton, many many others. All sites were literally blocked for access. I couldnt run any software installers. My Microsoft Search was disabled if you can believe that. Seriously!! This was a n ugly attack.
How did I get this? I went to a standard website and it was encoded into the infected site. Invisible. No warning untill it was launched.....too late. I have full virus protection and it was useless.
I had to work in safe mode and look for 3rd party downloads of off name weapons that werent listed in the worms blacklist of security tools. A major flaw in all the Virus protection companies is that they dont download the virus files with their installs. Once this little monster is on your system it blocks you from getting the virus .dat files. NASTY!!
I am not your average PC plunker. For me to fight a pitched battle with these freakin things is unusual. This looks like a cyber attack not a standard virus. WATCH OUT! This could cause real issues in the next month if they dont get on it.
I looked at several security forums and no one knew how to beat this thing. Useless advice on all. It looks like a variant on the Crowt worm to me.
If you get infected a self contained virus elimination tool is all that can work. McAfee has a gadget called a stinger that is a scan and current list of viruses that it can run. A registered user can give you this on a USB drive. I manually edited registry and tweaked all the infected areas.
DONT email!!! It attaches itself to Microsoft mail. Dont worry...this is web based text not email.
I am still fighting the dragon and getting back up but this is a heads up.
Wyshynski an Aye-hole like this could be makin money instead of causin havoc for yuks. That stinks!

Thanks for the cyber-worm comments. I got something like that a few weeks ago from an innocent website text. I had to boot up in safe mood and run a few of the free scanners delivered via usb. Scary stuff, but hardly hockey banter.
How come there isn't a big blog here about reactions to the Winter Classic game (other than Puck Daddy Chat)? I thought it was fantastic, meaning good hitting and aggression, speed, pretty plays, lots of goals, awesome camera angles. No mahor criticism. My friends and I were goofing on the people sitting on rooftops across the street. If you can't see the puck, can you enjoy the action?

I hope they retitle that interview WIRTZ SCIENCE. And I just think it's awesome that Hughes was recognizable. I was pretty sure the next time we'd see him would be a Nolteseque mugshot.
Please, Mr. Hughes. Please come back and make teen movies respectable again.

Of coarse there was alot of celebrities in attendence, who else could afford the tickets? I'm sure there was alot of doctors, lawyers, ceo's, and other high class winter classic wine affeicinatos as well. Why? because according to Mr Buttmen hockey is more of a wine drinking crowd nowadays then the beer drinking blue collar crew that supported this lousy league the past 100 years. Yet another stab in the back to the "Cult" faithful. But then again how else could those high players saleries be paid with the attendance this league gets.
Gary's next quote should be " Thanks for building up this sport to this point but dont let the door hit ya on the way out"

The only celebrity I saw was former Bulls center Bill Wennington. Since he's a native Canadian, I probably shouldn't have been surprised to see him wearing a custom "WENNINGTON #34" Hawks alternate jersey, but I'm glad I didn't have to stand behind him for the entire game.

That Bettman pic reminds me of when Micheal Powell was chair of the FCC. He had a page which was nothing but pictures of him with celebrities (Oprah among others) and even Mickey Mouse. Its quite funny considering the people he was taking pictures with he had an affect on their life.

God. Thank you for posting such a crappy post on Vince Vaughn. How is he famous again? Dumb comments about Avery? Bad enough local MEDIA and EVERYBODY else made a public crucifixion of Avery...but now 1-dimensional Vince Vaughn? Somebody pull that tampon, this one's saturated.
