Puck Daddy - NHL

The Leafs section of Fan Dome posted this line brawl video between the International Hockey League's Muskegon Lumberjacks and Fort Wayne Komets from Oct. 31, and it's pretty much the expected chaos until the 55-second mark. That's when a linesman makes the mistake of trying to get between Komets forward Brad MacMillan and the target of his fists.

From the News-Sentinel, it appears the IHL frowns upon their officials getting tossed like rag dolls by goons (in which case Colton Orr(notes) is lucky to be a marginal NHL player):

International Hockey League Vice President of Hockey Operations Brad Jones suspended MacMillan 15 games on Monday for his part in Saturday's altercation against Muskegon. MacMillan left the penalty box and pushed a linesman out of the way to fight Lumberjacks' Jason Lawmaster.

Muskegon's Robin Big Snake was suspended for 12 games and MacMillan, Big Snake and Lawmaster all received undisclosed fines. During their suspensions, the players continue to count against a team's salary cap and 20-man active roster. They continue to receive their salaries.

"It's not a surprise," MacMillan said. "I knew I was getting suspended, but I'm a little disappointed by the fact that Lawmaster gets no suspension out of this. I wouldn't have changed anything I did besides not touching the official."

As mentioned, the Komets are upset that Lumberjacks player Lawmaster wasn't suspended for his actions in the fight. During that brawl, the Komets' Lincoln Kaleigh Schrock also fought Muskegon's John DiPace as well.

Robin Big Snake. Jason Lawmaster. Lincoln Kaleigh Schrock. Sorry, but when did the IHL become the character list from a cheesy 1980s sci-fi fantasy film?

    well that didn't take long. that's what happens when the wannabes see ref-pushing tolerated in the show.

    Not a shocker. Big Snake used to pull the same shinola in the WHL in his junior days.

    The guy Lawmaster beat down is Konstantine Shafranov, he's 41 and had something like 28 pims last year. Macmillen Shouldn't have come out of the box, but he was standing up for a team mate plain and simple.

    I watch the Muskegon Lumberjacks and the IHL on a regular basis. There is no love lost between most of these teams. They get into fights all the time and the fans love it. Shoving a ref deserves a suspension. Making fun of the players names is pretty juvenile. Until the NHL lowers the ticket prices, many fans of hockey will watch a good IHL or AHL team. Unlike the NHL, the junior leagues allow fighting, which in my book, is part of the game.

    Weak. Looked like the ref was going too fast to stop and would have fallen anyway. Really weak.

    That was EPIC!! hahaha I loved that brawl. This is just old fashion hockey. Okay he did leave the box to fight but I don't view shoving a ref that big of a deal. He had no intent to hurt the guy, he was just in his way so he sent him packing. I miss brawls like that, great stuff.

    Believe it or not, Jason Lawmaster was a key offensive defenseman for the Belleville Bulls' OHL championship team in '99. Sad that he's now resorting to this crap.
    Not many of those guys understand the basic etiquette of fighting- no respect for each other. You don't keep wailing on a guy when he's lying down on the ice. And I totally expected the one dude who slightly pushed back against the linesman (not the full throwdown, the other one before it) to give a little kick to emulate that pansy Grabovski.

    this type of "old fashioned hockey" is nothing but a bunch of mongoloid "parents" actually CHEERING for the KIDS to fight each other. think about that for a second. a large group of adults standing...PAYing in support of their children FIGHTING each other. there's nothing "old fashioned" about this. old fashioned is players wearing sweaters and there's no hitting and the puck never leaves the ice. every time i see ghetto or trashy parents watching their kids fighting on LiveLeak and then shaking my head then realize that retards like this are no different at all. they're sanctioning violence amongst their kids. pure and simple.
    that's not even to mention the fighting is totally boring now anyway. do they realize you can see any amount of violence they want on the internet? torture, knife fights, beheadings, executions, stabbings, hangings, dog fights, rape, people being burned alive, self immolation, etc. i give nothing but a huge yawn when i see this boring crap. almost no spike in brain activity at all. i actually get bored because i hate waiting for the clean up....it's similar to the glass breaking. again, these are monkeys cheering for kid violence.

    @HotStacey,
    "Mongoloid", "retards", please, go back to doing your nails, sending text messages, putting on some make-up, doodling with your hair, maybe watch some figure skating. You are a waste of skin; if you do not like the sport, don't watch it or comment on it.

    @not very HotStacey,
    Your English and spelling is atrocious. I expect that from most pre-teens who have the I.Q. of a grapefruit. I have been watching and playing hockey for more years than you have been on the Earth. I have never played a fantasy sports game; that said, I have posted many times when the Red Wings are in the news. Did you star in that movie,"Clueless"? Just wondering, since your mindless drivel has no real meaning to hockey fans. Go make your boyfriend some dinner like a good little girl and leave hockey blogs to hockey fans........

    spacey, last thing i will say to you, i was going to redwings games back at olympia stadium......you have the right to your own opinion, however inane and pointless it might be. my original post stated that shoving a ref deserved a suspension. you proceeded to go on a diatribe about mongoloid parents and retard offspring. you are a foul-mouthed woman who has no understanding about the game of hockey. as i said, you have the right to your own opinions, but expect no compassion or understanding from educated people.

    alright, i'm done here. bottom line: hockey fans in this audience in the video are morons. they're actually cheering for two young kids fighting each other. there's no way that's defensible. it's not "a part of the game." it's uncivilized, monkey behavior that's really sleazy and low brow. you're defending: on skates = "yay!", in school = "boo, that's 'wrong' because i'm a responsible parent." it's not a defensible position.

    Not sure why everyone's going at HotStacey so hard, it's not like anything she said was all that shocking. Hockey parents can be idiots, and can push their kids into doing idiotic things on the ice. See: Patrick and Jonathan Roy. There are plenty of examples of it.
    As for the actual incident in question, I'm a little surprised it was only 15 games, to tell you the truth. I'd expect 15 games to a guy if he only left the penalty box to get into a fight; when he leaves the penalty box and then shoves the linesman over, whether or not it was relatively incidental, could very well be worth 25-30 games. In my opinion.

    heres what shoulda been said: Listen lady, no one cares bout your pussified hockey preference, no one cares about how long you've been watchin, hockey involves fighting, there aren't any children in the IHL and the players will make up THEIR OWN MINDS whether they're gonna fight or not. do you really believe that they think to themselves "this one's for my Dad!" and punch the guy.

    My Question: How exactly is Fantasy Sports Dungeon and Dragons? It's not like Patrick Kane is a level 5 Necromancer or some shiat.
    And Stacey, when there is a topic of discussion, it is important to stay within the context. Not go off on a rant on something that is of very little relevance. What the F do kids have to do in the article, the clip, or the discussion? F All. Now shut up, Adults are talking.
