Puck Daddy - NHL

PITTSBURGH -- Earlier this week, Benkovitz Seafoods in the Strip District of Pittsburgh announced it was going to have a "Trash The Octopus" party before Game 3. They promised octopus whacked like a piñata, which got us down there. Alas, this did not happen.

But we did witness octopi shot into nets like hockey pucks and grilled by trash-talking Pittsburgh Penguins fans.

We also discussed the fishery's policy on not selling octopus to pretty much anyone from the Midwest during the Stanley Cup Finals. It was quite a rally, with literally hundreds dozens six or so fans in attendance.

Take a gander, and visit Benkovitz at www.benkovitzseafood.com.

Thanks for boiling 'em up. Those are better for throwin' on the ice anyway.
And Wysh - saying you taste the Wings players as you are eating the octopi is just so wrong in sooooo many ways.

Before Red Wings fans tear this post apart, this is the dumbest thing ever which is why no one attended. What a stupid idea someone would have. This was a publicity thing because originally they were going to sell to Wings fans because another Fish Market wasn't but heard an outcry from pens fans so they try this stunt to get back in good standing. As a pens fan, you failed miserably.

How would Pens fans feel if I hung a penguin outside from a noose? Not so good huh?

Just remember: the octopus symbolizes Detroit's ability to win 8 games in a playoff year. They're already 6 over their limit; they're done.

Morbid to think about doing it (for myself anyway) but would anyone be saying "It's all in good fun" if someone displayed a dead penguin like that?
Looking forward to another great night of hockey!

As horrendous as it is, dead penguins are funny as hell. I mean... they should be up and waddling right? But no, they're all lying there, not moving. Or, in the case of the Endangered Pittsburgh Penguin, golfing and crying.

But seriously..........have fun while you can pens fans, with datsyuk and draper in the line-up you have about no chance to win a key faceoff.
pk just got a hell of alot better, wonder why our numbers were so low....no draper and datsyuk to control the play.
cant wait for the game tonight. should be a doozie. i say 5-2 wings with goals by hossa(2) franzen, filpula, and hudler. bout time happy hudler had some fun.

I am a pretty flippant person, but I am having trouble seeing the humour in beating on an animal carcass. Wysh's homoerotic references to the Wings players ... Now THAT'S funny.

@ rwl060: Yea you are flippant. You see no problem when one is hurled 300 feet and splats on the ice, but sure as hell don't "beat on an animal carcass"....that's just terrible, right?

I'm wondering who Photoshopped the coolness into Wyshynski's blog photo ... because it definitely doesn't show up in your blog video.
