Video: Pens fans celebrate July 4 by blowing up Hossa T-shirt

"In less than 24 hours after free-agency began, Marian Hossa joined the Detroit Red Wings. Next season, they will be launching the best offensive hockey team in the history of mankind.

"'Mankind.' That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common hatred of the octopus. Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom... Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but from unrestricted free agents who claim they want to play in Pittsburgh and then sign with the team that beat the ‘Guins for the Stanley Cup."

"We are fighting for our right to cynically assassinate his character. To exist. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: 'We will not go quietly into an off-season of hurt! We will not vanish without blowing up a Marian Hossa T-shirt! We're going to live on! We're going to survive!' Today we celebrate our Independence Day! Through the destruction of officially licensed products!"

Boy, good thing they didn't have YouTube when Jagr forced a trade.

Here's the thing that I asked Leahy last week, and he really didn't have an answer on behalf of Pittsburgh Penguins fans: If Hossa fails to win a Stanley Cup with the Red Wings, what would it take to forgive him if he showed an interest in coming back to the Penguins?

A full-on apology for his avarice? A daily foot massage for Maxime Talbot for the duration of their contracts? Or has this bridge been permanently burned? Is Marian Hossa now dead to Penguins fans?

    i'd like to see detroit fall on their faces this season and have hossa crying to come back to pitt. but i'd also like to see gas prices at $1 a gallon. so whatever...

    Personally, I still like Hossa but boo on his decision to go to the Red Wings, but we'll win the Stanley Cup without him!

    everyone talks about how difficult it will be for the wings to repeat. well, when was the last time a conference champion repeated?
    the penguins will never win a stanley cup so long as therrien is their coach. any team that comes out of the west will be better-coached than the penguins.

    Just the same old stuff , Pens fans = No Class, its called FREE agency. as he said he wanted the BEST chance of winning the cup and even took a pay cut to have it. Been watching and playing hockey all my life ,but have never read about and seen so much immaturity in a fan base in my life, The pens should just move, They made to the finals at least they deserve some decent fans. Oh and #9 good luck on that whole winning the cup thing, the Pens Arent going to be close to the same team next season.

    Umm.... you guys do realize Hossa was only on pittsburgh for half a season right?
    just thought i'd point that out... you're all acting like he committed the biggest form of betrayal...
    Maybe he was tired of Therrien making any excuse he can when they lose.

    wings,ducks sharks,all the powerhouse teams would take the pens w/or w/out hossa.how bout them bruins michael ryder ??now there's a fa signing that will really make a differense (5 more losses).embaressment to celts,sox and pats...tough being a bruins fan ..we wouldv'etaken hossa...cheap..

    newsflash penguins fans there will be 2 teams in the finals next year 1 will make a return trip the other will probaly not make the playoffs and seems how the team that just won the cup has only LOST 1 PLAYER FROM THAT TEAM, the team that will not be in the finals will be cindy and his girls

    PS to all you Pen 'hockey' fans, now after a good whoopin', maybe you understand what people meant by a PUCK POSSESION team. Welcome to your understanding of the term SALARY CAP. You shot yr wad on a rental who performed far better than Cindy while we all realized even before the series began that your squad would be totally screwed when it came to the off-season.
    The Wings pissed $ away last year on a guy named Bertuzzi - did you hear us bawling about losing cro-mag in the off-season because we weren't goose-stepping to most teams pathetic 70s throwback systems? Sharks? Ducks? freaking Colorado? Yeah right. Maybe see you in the finals around 2012.

    Pittsburg whiners....although, not quite as bad as the Dallas whiners and haters.... da Wings will be hard to stop once again next year......however don't despair Penguins fans as we all know itz more than likely eventually dat boy Crosby will win a cup......and maybe without even joining da Wings to do so......so quit'cho whinin and be glad you have a decent NFL team...... Go Wings!
