It's been quite the season for the Dallas Stars. They struggle out of the gate, have to deal with the Sean Avery debacle, lose their captain, Brendan Morrow, for the season, then begin resurgence, and finally, lose Brad Richards to a broken wrist. Yesterday, in an important intra-conference match-up, the Stars lost a key two points at the hands of the Chicago Blackhawks in a 3-1 defeat.
The only bright spot for Dallas was the unbelievable skate save by Marty Turco on Jonathan Toews.
After the game, Turco attributed his instincts when he found himself sliding in his own crease:
"When you get in those situations it's all about reacting," Turco said. "It all stems from practicing like that and reacting to do what ever it takes. All I knew when I was sliding over is that he might shoot it right away. Out of the corner of my eye I knew he didn't shoot it, you think he is going to get it up, so you throw up a leg and you get lucky."
Like Mark Stepneski said over at Andrew's Stars Page, the save in the period could have been a turning point for the Stars as it kept the score 2-0, but Dallas squandered a power-play a short time later and the Blackhawks would later score with less than a minute remaining in the period to extend their lead to three.
Is it just me, or are we seeing a different "of the Year" candidate every week? Add Turco's desperation skate save to the "Save of the Year" category.
h/t to the great DayWalk3r for passing along the video

Turco's one of the best at making those types of saves.

Subjects and verbs must AGREE with one another in number (singular or plural). Thus, if a subject is singular, its verb must also be singular; if a subject is plural, its verb must also be plural.
In present tenses, nouns and verbs form plurals in opposite ways: . . . verbs REMOVE an s from the singular form. . . .
3. Compound subjects joined by "and" are always plural.

Considering his awful start,It looks like he getting back into form & If he gets them in playoffs..they could be dangerous. Another great example of Turcos - left leg larceny ........( Feel the wrath of the fallen angel ! )

I didn't watch that game live (I was at work) but being a Stars fan means seeing saves like that on a fairly regular basis. I remember watching Hasek for years and seeing plenty of floundering "no-skill all-luck" saves. Guess what- when it happens that often, it's not JUST luck. Take a look at the the W.C. semifinals last year for some great examples.
Still, it'd be nice if Turco didn't bite on some of the shots that he does. I guess it (eventually) worked out pretty well for Hasek...He made a career out of saves like that.
