Visors, visors, visors … since Chris Pronger's(notes) eye injury on Oct. 24, and his prickly reaction to potentially having to don a visor upon his return, the issue has been at the forefront at the player safety debate.
Defenseman Drew Doughty(notes) of the Los Angeles Kings wears one; and after this shot by James Neal(notes) of the Pittsburgh Penguins deflected up into Doughty's face on Saturday night, let's be happy he does:
Doughty played 25:01 in the shootout loss, taking regular shifts for the rest of the third and into overtime.
From The Royal Half, it appears Doughty also had a screw loose. Or two:
TSN's Gord Miller wrote on Twitter last night, "We'll never know for sure, but after watching a shot hit Drew Doughty in the visor, it's quite likely that the shield saved Doughty's eye."
While that might be a bit of hyperbole, Doughty's lucky he didn't test the theory; and the Kings are lucky their $56 million investment is well protected.
