In the first period of an exhibition game against the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday, Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Mike Komisarek(notes) was playing the puck when winger Francis Lessard(notes) attempting to finish a check on him. Instead, Komisarek laid him at the delicate feet of Pierre McGuire on a memorable hit:
Being dumped between the benches on national television and then getting chirped by Colton Orr(notes) is a special level of hockey indignity. Don't these ingrates know that Francis Lessard played 62 games with the 2003-04 Atlanta Thrashers?!
The Leafs defeated the Senators, 4-1. Cody Bass(notes) and Komisarek scrapped at the end of regulation. The Battle of Ontario knows no preseason!
